((***DEAD***)) NEW Onkyo TX-NR509 5.1 Channel Network A/V Receiver $160 w/FS at Amazon (($142 Amazon Warehouse))

Are there any offers for 5.1 speaker systems at the moment? I am looking for something similar to the Yamaha NS-SP1800BL which unfortunately is way overpriced right now.

I got a used one last time this was on sale from Amazon Warehouse. The receiver had obviously been opened up and the corners of the front of the receiver were scraped up pretty badly. Didn't even come with the original box. Was supposed to be in "very good" condition and it wasn't up to that description. Contacted Amazon on the matter and they gave me a partial refund, so it only ended up being about $106 bucks. I've been very happy with it and the sound quality is great when you use the auto calibration settings.

I would advise you to build one instead getting out of the box...you'll get the most out of your money.

I've had this receiver for almost a month now and haven't experienced any problems...average use of like 6-8hrs a day.

I'll second this if you also need the receiver. Onkyo HTIB are the best bang for your buck out there. Their systems are truly excellent for the price.

My first two systems were Onkyo HTIB, both are now gifted and still kicking. I finally upgraded to a custom speaker system but stuck with a high-end Onkyo receiver.

If you need the whole system for less than <$800, just get an Onkyo HTIB.

Reviews are really bad. Issues with HDMI, dying within a years, so on....

My last 2 Onkyo Receivers didn't make it a year. HDMI ports started dieing one by one.
Buy the extended warranty!

Reviews aren't bad - everyone warns you to update the firmware right away. Not listening leads to issues so it's on you.

I'm waiting for the TX-NR515 to go on sale - anyone believe that will go on sale?

EDIT: Apparently Onkyo just launched (or is coming soon) the TX-NR525, so the NR515 will likely go on sale in the next month or two, I'll probably wait until that happens.

I've been watching the price of the 509 go up and down since the $150 deal (that I missed). When I checked this morning and saw it at $178.34 I bit. I did the Amazon store card for the $178.34 - $10 deal. Just called Amazon and cancelled the first order (Shipping Soon) and re-ordered for $168.01 - $10. This is a very decent entry model. What really makes this a nice deal is the edition of the network capability.

The only thing I have to worry about now is selling the HT-S3500 home theater in a box system I picked up from Best Buy for $150. That was supposed to be for my Father but this receiver is a nice step up from the HT-R391 that comes with the other system.

If they drop the 509 down another $10 I might pick up another for the shop.
