If I'm not mistaken, squaretrade will refund you the shipping charges if you have to mail this thing back to Onkyo during the warranty period (I know they cover shipping if you have to ship it to Squaretrade). If that is the case, if you have to ship this once you'll likely spend what the warranty costs...

Also, it's been said already but if you buy from warehouse deals and it's a refurb, it would only carry a 1 year warranty (if that).

Just bought this! For $150.68-$2.67 I had left in rewards = $148.01 + $29.99 for extended warranty from SquareTrade = A total of $178 with 4 years of extended warranty. Will check and see if they can give me an extra year since Onkyo provides 2 years of Warranty

Not sure if you didn't read my post from last night but I called Squaretrade about that issue on shipping specifically. They only pay for shipping after the 2 year warranty with the manufacture is over and as you said to their repair facility. The initial 2 year warranty from Onkyo covers the first 2 years of the 3 year warranty and you are responsible for shipping charges to Onkyo. If for some reason Onkyo fails to cover the problem within that 2 year warranty then Squaretrade would pay for shipping to their repair facility. There is no reimbursement to you for shipping to the manufacture, and I asked because at the normal price of $29.99 you basically buying an extra year of warranty service. Even the Squaretrade rep said he didn't think that the normal price of $29.99 was worth the extra year.

Squaretrade works at the same time, or as the rep said last night "along side" the manufactures warranty, not after it. You bought an extra year of warranty service for $29.99. They do not extend the length of the warranty, or add on to the end of it as you think. You have 30 days to cancel your policy. I would, it's not worth it. If you want to purchase an extended warranty for that extra year PM me tommorow and I'll send you a code for 30% off. Squaretrade sends me a couple of 30% off codes every Tueday. For what it's worth, not sure if $21 is worth the extra year, but that's up to you.

Most cards give you an extra year on items with a warranty of 1 year or less. That extends the warranty to a total of 2 years and that's what Onkyo already provides in this case. Are you saying Amex gives you an extra year on 2 years for a total of 3 years? If that's the case that's not the norm. I don't know... I quit that card many years ago when it had a $50 yearly fee.

Amex doubles the manuf warranty up to an additional year on NEW products. In this case it would give you an additional year (you would be stuck with shipping charges I'm sure). They have done that for longer than I can remember.

Yes I read your previous post but I didn't recall see anything in it regarding shipping specifically, only that it ran alongside the manuf warranty. Not paying the full price on the warranty myself, if I was I might reconsider- but with a coupon, considering the current cost of $150.20 you get that additional year for just over $20- if it drops to below $150 you're looking at a cost of $14.69 with coupon, and that will be likely considerably less than shipping the thing once. This is what I paid for the warranty last go round about a month or so ago.

Also as you mentioned they will cover things that Onkyo may or may not normally cover under their warranty- ie lightning damage, humidity issues, etc. In my case this is going into a plastic cabinet on my patio for my TV and pool entertainment system, and it will be there until it dies rain or shine and through 100+ degrees of Texas heat or the winter freeze. So certainly in my case the ST warranty is a safe bet.

Interesting to note that this is the first day since Amazon started dropping the price that it's only dropped a few pennies (yesterdays price was $150.68)... I think this fire sale is just about over. Kind of a bummer, I was hoping it would go another $20 or so.
