This is a pretty good deal for a phone and 3 months of prepaid service, but I'm not sure about refills though. I bought the phone, but it doesn't seem like a hot deal when I will have to start refilling the minutes after 3 months.. compared to T-Mobile or Page Plus.

I plan on using this phone as a backup/emergency so I doubt if I will hardly use more than 20 minutes a month. Looking at the refill options, I will have to choose from 30 minutes card (good for only 30 days) for $10 or 60 minutes card (good for 90 days) for $20. Seems like buying 60min card is a smarter option, which means it costs $80 in refills to keep the phone active for 1 year even if consume very few minutes.


Compared that to say T-Mobile, where it costs $100 the first year and only $10 to keep the phone active every year after the first. Its their prepaid Gold Rewards [t-mobile.com]..


With PagePlus, it costs $10 every 3 months [pagepluscellular.com] to keep the phone active.. which still comes out cheaper than Tracfone.


Unless I am missing something here, Tracfone refills cost more than T-Mobile/Pageplus for someone who is looking for a long term prepaid plan with low minutes usage.
