I've had a touch capable laptop since windows XP, and typing on win 7 touch tablet and have Win 8 too. Works for my strange needs, but for couch surfing/news reading I use android 7 and 10inch tablets. Nook tablet HD is nice if you can grab a refurb to modify. The sell out faster than google IO tix |

flying-
Yeah...i just remembered reading an article about x86 and tablets... now i understand... its not supported by windows... good stuff. I'll look into that Nook.. I lug around a 14inch dell e6410..my kids drop it, its missing keys...so i think a tablet is in my future... |

No go for me, not without some reviews. I got the Mach Trio last week. It's OK in speed and battery life, and only costs only $25 IF the MIR come through. My biggest complaint about that tablet is the glass. It is so soft and scratches so easily. I have only used it lightly for a few days. No way to tell if this has tablet Gorilla Glass or at least some type of tempered glass.

Just saying that Rockchip CPUs are terrible in comparison to other ARM chips. Usually those are used in cheap Chinese tablets and give you an idea of the quality of the device you're purchasing. You're much better off paying $60 more for the refurb 16 GB Nexus 7. Please, just trust me on this.

There are so many better choices at the low end these days.
A Nook Tablet / Nook Color in the sub-$100 range if you can follow instructions well and put real CM7/CM10 on it. $150-$180 or so - A Nexus 7 or a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0". Go with one or the other instead of these no-name brand tablets. ROM development, fixes, cases, etc - makes them all much better. |

Except that there is one area in which I actually prefer the no-name tablets from China, weight. Most of the generic low quality tablets are in the 290-320 gram weight range, and after long enough holding them my hand gets fairly tired. The Nook Color is 448g. The Nook Tablet is a little better at 400g. The Google Nexus 7 is _much_ nicer at 340g. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is 345g. So the question is, are you happy with another 40g in weight? My next tablet will probably be the Nexus 7 or something close to it, or another cheap tablet from china once you can get 1280x800 in the $80 range instead of the $120 range. But then again, I use mine for reading books, and I need the backlight, so, your mileage will probably vary. |
