I have the WNDR3700v4 I recently purchased and I am still in the 30 day return period.

This was a quick upgrade from a Dlink DIR-825 and DIR-655 used around the house.
Was wondering what the trends were these days for wireless routers (what to look for to use for streaming DVD, HD 720p/1080p MP4 and other various formatted video streams from a NAS, torrent processing, DLNA, UPND, with apple devices wired and not wired around a three story townhome.

I see there are differences in the WNDR3700v1, v2, v3 and v4 versions of this router.

Was curious what were these differences, what are the major differences in using the more expensive routers basically jumping to wifi at Gigbit speeds (is that needed).

Also, is there a website that allows for multi product comparisons for routers (like that cell phone site for comparisons?)

Yet, no problems thus far with the WNDR3700v4.
It appears the 2.5 reaches with stronger signal to 3rd floor vs. the 5G signal which is only at 2 bars strength.
I generally feel as if the connection is "stronger" vs. that with the DIR-825 and DIR-655 routers.

I like the admin software, all basic settings were there to advance settings for reserved MAC/IP addresses, guest SSID features, etc.

The "readyshare" system works well. Just plugged an external USB drive into the port in back and it showed up under my network drives in Windows 7Home Premium. Connection is about as fast as any other NAS on the system, however, video did play back choppy vs. that which I can access through my traditional NAS.

Quick setup (bypassed, went into manual setup without needing to refer to much)
Login is admin pw is password (or refer to external label on device for wireless access to the device over wifi using that un/pw info.

So, look forward to any responses.

I'd recommend something else. This router is dated. They changed the specs and chipsets in every version release. Some of them have problems with 2.4GHz radios going weak/dead. I did run one for several years but I'm getting about double the signal from a $50 WD My Net N900 than the wndr3700.

I was able to put gargoyle on mine, and that seemed to perform a bit better than the stock firmware, which hasn't had many updates.

Still, at the $50 price point you have a fairly good range of recent model routers with similar/better performance. $50 for a mystery version model of a 2+ year old router, refurbished....shake head
