I'd say replay value depends on the person. Some people finish a game and never pick it up again, some like to level all of their characters to max, achievement hunters, etc. I'd say the variety of characters gives it a lot more replay, although you play through the same game each character gives it a slightly unique experience and more to do. My 8 year-old plays with her Skylanders without the game at this point, she has a few castle playsets and they make pretty cool toys, although they don't have any moving parts (pretty much little plastic statues). |

I remember when I first heard of this Skylanders business and asked a store employee what it was, I immediately thought... what a ripoff... I'm surprised Disney isn't doing this yet, so lo and behold here it is!
The way the store employee explained the Skylanders figures to me, he said there is this USB base you plug into a console where you put a character on it and it detects that character (probably some magnetic induction code reader) which then allows the game to play that character. This means that instead of having a large set of unlocked characters at the outset when you buy a game like Super Street Fighter IV, Activision chose to restrict the number of characters (and probably game options) by forcing you to buy these overpriced coded characters to do what you should (and normally could) do using a game controller to select your characters from a roster. So basically, the game is purposefully crippled and a totally unnecessary and expensive peripheral and character selection system is introduced to rip off parents when their kids beg them for these "cool looking" overpriced figures to play characters and parts of the game that should've been unlocked in the game from the beginning. Yes, if I understand it right, it's definitely right up The Walt Disney Company's ally and my gut instinct was right. Since I don't buy games over $20, especially purposefully crippled ones, it's unlikely I'll ever buy this Disney Infinity. Of course in a (still mostly) free market, parents are free to cave into their kids and pay greedy Activision and Disney whatever they want. Other parents are free to say no way on principle in spite of their kids' begging. Last edited by Baguda; 03-14-2013 at 07:36 AM.. |

Disney is so damn fervent about IP protection as well as scarcity control that this is going to make people's skylanders habits look like 'recreational use' compared to the hardcore, 'I just need one more, then I'll quit' this is going to turn into.
What I don't get is why they didn't do it the most obvious-win way and re-issue the Kingdom Hearts collections in High-Def this way . . . probably didn't want to share the money. It's a great, well-established franchise that would be great to re-boot the old titles with cross-platform availability. I was Dirty Harry, John Wayne, and G.I. Joe
I am not commuting. I am midway through a twenty-year study of the migration habits of the North American Moron, an invasive species to the NorthEastern United States. WW(;,;)D? |

Honestly looks boring. Not to mention, but has there been even one non-craptastic Disney game other than the Kingdom Hearts series, which was a Disney license but developed entirely by Squaresoft?
I'm way more excited by Pokemon Rumble U, which should blow the pants off of both Disney Infinity and Skylanders. Solid gameplay, long pedigree, actual gameplay balance, $2 figures, potentially hundreds of figures.... |

Does it make I feel better if I buy this overpriced toy?

The skylanders giants are overpriced. I think I dished out $200 to play this game. |

Most stores put either a June or a December date on upcoming games to give a 2nd/4th quarter idea on releases with no solid dates. |
