You can purchase Brandon Sanderson's The Way of Kings eBook for $2.99 from various retailers. He is, IMO, the best contemporary fantasy writer and one of the best modern writers of any genre. He finished Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series.

This book is the start of an epic series (10 books planned) with the 2nd one most likely coming out next year. If you want a good intro to his books and style of writing without reading this 1000 page book, read his Mistborn trilogy [brandonsanderson.com]. My wife isn't much of a fantasy reader but she couldn't put the books down.

The Mistborn trilogy is simply astounding... Sanderson is my favorite author, and every book he releases, no matter the genre (he writes more than just adult fantasy), just cements it that much more.

Unique set of magic, great characters, and good enough ending.

First book is like Oceans Eleven with Fantasy.

sweet, I had this bookmarked for awhile (mistborn was pretty good), but the friggin $9 for a download was absurd. I don't mind paying $3 for digital at all though.

Yea, these long series always suck because it is so long between books.

I'm almost done with the trilogy for the 3rd time now. It's quite good =D You should also look into Alloy Laws which is a continuation of the universe.

I loved the book. The only thing I did not like is that it was too short (he was originally going to write it as a short story, then it became a novelette, then a novella, then a novel)! laugh out loud

His books, while having good endings also always leave me wanting more.
