This is a truly spectacular book - one of my favorite, if not my absolute favorite, fantasy novel of all time.

just to keep it alive and bump. Way of Kings is epic. Probably will get a series one day, like GoT, as long as he introduces more sex and keeps up with the violence.
Why? His magic is in gemstones, and it's very well written. Dune got its own, after all, and it's magic system isn't nearly as neat. |

I'll second everyones comments. The Name of the Wind is by far my favorite book/series, but The Way of Kings is easily my second favorite I've read. I've enjoyed all of Sanderson's work and would easily recommend any of them even having not read a couple. But this one I have and it's fantastic.

For the folks like me not impressed by the Wheel of Time (I think it's terrible) - don't get scared off. Sanderson is pretty good.
Just read Elantris and the Mistborn books last year. He's a bit more of an exciting / story writer more than a character-driven writer - despite this his characterizations are good. Mistborn, to me, reads like watching a CLAMP anime - with characters jumping through the air, fighting, and doing fantastic/crazy things. I hadn't gotten around to reading this one though. I disagree on best modern fantasy writer BTW. IMO that's Robin Hobb (aka Megan Lindholm), as I'm a huge fan. GRR Martin is at #2 for me (assuming that he actually finishes Ice & Fire). I'll pick this up for $2.99 from B&N since there's no DRM (I almost never buy DRM'd ebooks). Tor has gotten smart with this. Thanks OP, great deal. Last edited by greenmky; 03-15-2013 at 07:19 AM.. |

I am now looking into the Mist Born Series. I like waiting until there are 2-3 books done before I start. I like reading series in chunks or all together. |

![]() I've started reading one of her books so I can't comment on where she ranks in my favorite authors list but I'm looking forward to reading her books too once I finish what I'm reading now. My nucleus accumbens

Plus - Tor/MacMillan fantasy is DRM free- support DRM-free ebooks! I love buying DRM free, it's the best way to tell publishers that DRM doesn't matter.

Thanks. Time Travel! I'll bite. Perhaps something better than normal. Last edited by greenmky; 03-15-2013 at 08:23 AM.. |
