just got mine today. I am impressed with the output, but it isn't 1klm, tint is a bit on the blue side. Build quality is not as good as fenix, threads are rougher, clip is garbage, switch doesn't feel as good. That being said, it is bright, the modes do work, and it was a LOT cheaper than my cheapest fenix. I'm sad it is as good as it is, as I mentioned, it would have been cheaper for me if it were total trash. Looks like I may need to get some more 18650's, a decent charger and some more hosts/lights.
I did order a somewhat aspheric lens from DX and am looking forward to seeing how well it will throw. DX Item # 5297 |

Got mine yesterday. Was super bright, small and well made. Got a clip as well to secure flashlight to pocket or something. These are much brighter than the meritline ones. I bought another today.

Me three... much brighter than the already bright AA lights. Nice. Lowest setting will be enough for most of the digging-around-in-garage and such uses.
Not sure about the batteries... seems like they were full. I tried to charge them, but the red light just blinked and then nothing. Perhaps it recognized them as full. |

As of late I have become somewhat of a flashlight enthusiast, mostly because of the high-powered, inexpensive Defiant flashlight deals at Home Depot. I ordered one of these not expecting much because I have a few flashlights from Meritline and DX that are not well constructed and LED heatsinking is horribly insufficient. I expected even less because it included batteries and a charger for $15.99 with free shipping, but I thought I would try my luck. I must say my expectations have been far exceeded with this light! It is very bright, has 5 modes, and a mode memory.
As with most electronics I acquire, I immediately disassembled it. It is built well, the threaded portions are clean enough, and the drop-in LED module used seems very high quality. I performed a couple of "free" modifications to this light to increase performance. The heatsinking seemed good, but not great. I folded and flattened some aluminum foil and wound it around the drop-in module until it fit snugly into the head pieces. Also, I noticed that the brass ground spring was not attached well to the drop-in module and did not seem to make a good connection. I soldered the two together. These two simple things will surely keep it cooler while running on high and increased the output. This light is nowhere near the 1000 lumens advertised, BUT after the modifications it does seem on par with my Defiant 3C 500 light. I have my concerns about the Li+ batteries and charger included. I manually peak charged the batteries with a variable voltage/current-limiting benchtop power supply and there are no apparent issues with the batteries I received. I DO NOT recommend charging this way unless you are familiar with the charging profile of Li+ cells. For safety reasons and my lack of trust for the chargers charging ability, I will most likely use the manual method instead of the included charger. This light has immediately risen to the top of my "go to" flashlight around the house. This being said, I have already ordered a second "kit". |

The batteries are UltraFire 3000mAh with protection. I have read reviews that the measured capacity is closer to 900mAh on some. The protection also may or may not work. I have not measured any of the specs on the batteries I received, but I have yet to charge them after my initial peak charge and I have been using the flashlight frequently. For the price, the batteries are probably be hit or miss.

After further unscientific testing. Comparing this light to my Fenix LD41 520lm and Fenix TK41 860lm, I have concluded this is in the realm of 400-500lm on high with a fresh battery. The clip broke off within 15 minutes and the low modes suffer distinct PWM. I maintain that this is top ten bang for the cheap buck in flashlights I have seen. These will be the flashlight of choice for giving and loaning.

For future potential deals... I just got the shipment from the OP deal. Holy crap it's insanely bright, even compared to the Trustfire deal in your link. It blows the trustfire away.

After 5 lights from Meritline from "300" - "1600" lumens, I got this and is the first one that is defective. Batteries and chargers work, light doesnt. I am not dissecting it to test all the connections, dont have time for that. The seller asked me to "check the connections," not sure what that means but he'll have to refund or send me one that works. I'll stick with Meritline from now on.

So does anyone have this light from Meritline:
http://www.meritline.c and the one in this post to compare? I think the Meritline one is excellent, would like to know how the one in this post compares to it. Last edited by michi098; 04-20-2013 at 05:57 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

If safety is a concern I would buy a set of quality Li-ion cells (Panasonic or Sanyo). Make sure they are PROTECTED.
Many sellers re-brand sanyo and panasonic cells. These are fine as long as they are protected. These are a good value https://www.fasttech.co Or you can get a light that runs on AAs (NiMh). In either case make sure to get a quality charger that terminates charge properly. Even cheaper flashlights are safe with good batteries. |

I bought two.
I have (2) Fenix TK35, (1) Surefire ED2 LED, (1) Z2X CombatLight upgraded with a 450lm LED light assembly. These lights are brighter and throw a wider beam than the ED2 LED but are not nearly as bright as the Fenix TK35, which use (2) 18650 or (4) 123 batteries, and which probably legitimately puts out 800+ lm. I use Pana, Sanyo, or Tenergy batteries. I think that the Tenergy 123 is one of the best batteries out there, especially for the price. |
