It is used to allow you to do several ab workouts, but with additional support. You can hang there and lift your legs straight out ahead of you, crunch side to side etc. It is a MUCH more powerful ab workout than doing crunches IMO. Something you would see at the gym that could relate to using ab straps at home would be the following:

It is possible depending on your weight and the materials. People have noted putting a washcloth where it attaches to avoid this scenario.

I bought the same thing at walmart last year for $20 just didn't have the jump rope with it..

Yeah, I got it from woot a few months back:
-Jump rope is stupid
-Push-up bars are awesome. They are harder than normal push-ups, so it's a great workout
-Pull-up bar is great and exactly what you'd expect
-Ab-straps are not very functional. I was really excited to get them, but they don't fit as well as you'd hope.

Seeing how a pull-up bar sells for ~$20 on its own normally, it's definitely worth it.

what is the weight limit on the pull up bar?

These pull up bars require a door with a large amount of flat space on either side (middle of the wall, not near a corner), and will put big dents in the molding around the door.

Got one from Woot a while back and the only thing worth my money was the iron gym bar. The push up grips are junk, and nothing like perfect pushups if that's what you're expecting. I use the gym bar all the time and love it. The foam marks up the door, but I put some paper in between the foam and the door and no more marking.

Ropeless jump rope is junk and the ab straps don't help much. If you want the iron gym bar this is a great deal though with free shipping.
