Then you know by definition the drive is rarely more than 50% full since the cache area can be cleared when the caching mechanism deems it necessary and you don't need to fill the storage area to the brink since load times with cache enabled are close to load times when installed on the SSD itself. It is effective, since Intel also incorporated SSD caching support on the Z68 and later boards Its a $40 item so not a whole lot of risk there, the fact that it's a yr old or discontinued is specious. The Samsung 830 is discontinued, plenty of them out there too. It's a performance tool like anything else, a 32GB Sandisk caching drive will set you back about $50. The very fact you speak about filling the SSD when you dont need to shows you missed the point.
