I have almost this same combo in my HTPC and it's been great. I have the B75-D3H, and I can't really figure out the difference. Regardless, definitely recommended.

I can never tell if these mobo's have optical audio output??
It looks like this has gigabit ethernet which I really need for HTPC. It says it has 8 audio channels...does that mean its 7.1 capable with toslink? |

regardless, I still need optical output as my receiver only does HDMI passthrough (really annoying since I didn't even know that existed until I bought it). |

Thanks OP, I may have to take a drive this weekend. My server is aching for an upgrade I was looking closely at B75 boards since I only need one 6Gbps SATA port for the OS SSD.

Anyway, I guess it doesn't work on that Z68 board? You could always just ask in-store. *YMMV* I was able to successfully have them apply a $50 combo discount on a Z77 mobo when I bought a 3770K for my desktop a couple months ago, even though that wasn't technically part of the promotion at the time. *YMMV* |

I'm thinking about going with the Core i5-3570K and ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 cpu/motherboard combo for $284.98 - is this a good deal? Would I benefit from the faster processor if I my computer primarily to browse the web, remote desktop, and watch po.. err.. HD movies? I do play a few games now and then like Civ5 and maybe the new SimCity in the future.

The only reason I bought an i7-3770k was to speed up video editing/encoding... and since I built the computer three months ago, I've used it for that purpose maybe three times. For the vast majority of uses, an i5 is more than powerful enough. Just get a ton of RAM if you can swing it (I have 32GB in my desktop) and you should be fine. Don't forget an SSD for your OS, too - Win7 is blazing fast on them. |
