this seems like a real good deal. I already have a 17-85 lens. Is the STM lens really worth the extra $210
(+ tax for me) with the Amazon and BH deal?

price wise an excellent deal but..... the seller (1saleaday) no refund and late shipping (last shipment order from them on 2/28 still hasn't shipped!)

Do their warranties have to be purchased at the same time as the item (camera, in this case) in order to be valid?

Is there any risk that these are grey market? I don't think I'd want to risk getting a grey market camera even with a 3rd party warranty.

I was asking the same thing, until I looked at my local CL. The resale value is definitely more than what you're paying at retail in the kit. In my case, I have no need for it so I'd sell it.

If you're going to keep it, its a good lens relative to its price and intended uses. I'd say it shines best when recording video, but it's still images are good. I'm not a fan of the basic kit lens, so this will give you a much better range and improve the quality of videos. If you're not planning on shooting video, it may not be worth it for you.

Squaretrade gives 30 days from purchase to get a warranty from them

Yes, must purchase within 30 days of receipt for squaretrade. But if this is a gift and ur months away, i am sure a deal like this will come around again to purchase
