Pre-Owned Asus Eee PC 1018P 10.1in Netbook 1.66GHz 1GB 250GB WiFi - $100 Shipped AC @ Cowboom

I actually bought a 1015pe from cowboom last year and i personally love it. sure the atom CPU is weak and took forever when i tried to convert a bunch of RAW files to JPEG, but for watching videos, browsing the web this is perfect. the battery still runs for 7 hrs+ after a year of use. a few points:

1. you can use the windows sticker on the netbook, download a windows 7 image, and get windows 7 starter for free. i tried ubantu but some drivers didn't work and i didn't want to bother.

2. SSD does improve its performance. ok maybe it's the stripped down windows 7 starter, but after throwing an OCZ vertex plus 120gb (which i obtained for $42AR) on it, boot time into windows narrowed from about 10 seconds to about 2 seconds. not exaggerating. blows my mind since it takes my desktop with an OCZ agility 3 about 10 seconds to boot into windows.

3. you'd be delusional to claim that a TABLET is more useful than a netbook. sure maybe a tablet has even longer battery life and is of course more portable, but just the ability to run windows makes this by default infinitely more useful at least to me - there are so many windows program that no android app can replicate. sure i hated converting RAW with my netbook, but at least you have the option to. the built-in keyboard is also a huge plus.

It'd be a stretch to say that it'll play any games other than some VERY basic games, but if you need flash block to browse either you're doing something wrong or you're bullshit x4 since i am typing on one right now with a youtube video playing in the background.

Still have mine for a year and half now and its working perfectly, Just remember guys, if it doesn't seem to hold a charge or flikers its not the battery but the power cord. Since Cowboom has so many used preowned $hiet they be sending the wrong Power Chargers, so you can call or chat with them and maybe get a $10.00 credit or just buy one from Amazon for about $10.00

Thanks so much for your informative post. Your arguments have swayed me... netbooks are dead, so evidently if I buy one it will no longer work. And since other people are not using netbooks, I wouldn't want to be seen with a 'dead' netbook, of course. A tablet with the same size screen (for several hundred dollars more) will be much more useful for my light browsing and typing on.... since tablets have such nice keyboards. Or I could buy a dual core laptop like you mentioned, for again, several hundred dollars more -- and I am sure it'll be as light and portable as a netbook is.

I've been using an acer netbook for several years and it is fine for what it is. They work fine for regular web browsing, typing on, emails, netflix/hulu/youtube (SD), and even some older games (nothing too fancy). My only concern with a used one would be the battery life, but if you get one with a decent battery, it should be a nice little machine.

what am supposed to do in terms of no OS being installed? I buy this and now what? I cannot do anything without an OS and I now buying and OS from Microsoft for $50 - $200 ?

OS not installed but key is still on the bottom of the laptop.
you just need to download copies of win 7 home premium and activate it with that key

and how do I go about doing that?

do I need another computer? External HD? next had to do it so all new to me ... OS had always come on and never played around with that

Actually it is Windows 7 Starter that you need to install.

@100 I would jump even if I hate ATOM on my Acer One. Loaded WIN8 and it has ran rather well but not getting much use right now. Besides I just got a Chromebook, can't buy another gadget at the moment.

I've got an Asus Eee PC netbook that I use sometimes when travelling. Since it can run most Windows applications, I find it way more useful than a tablet. My biggest gripe is the small size of the keyboard, which impacts me more than the screen size for what I do with it.

If I need to get real work done, I use a regular laptop.

I had one of these and the video was terrible. It would not do any Itunes video and other video was choppy. I had upgraded the ram and still no luck. I was running windows 7
