Average size head here as well as average ears I believe. My ears HURT after about an hour of wearing these headphones. I don't know if its because they are closed or just shaped wrong for my head. I also have some Senns which have this velour padding I could live with for days. SLEEP WITH!. Alas they are open and I get complaints. Frown

These AT's. not so much.
Same experience w/ my M50's too. They do sound pretty good, and the pressure around my ears may be getting better with time. We'll see...I got them for ~$120 on Amazon

Many people complain about pressure on ears. The ear pads are not the biggest on the m50's. Its one of the reasons I stayed away from them.

I also like Senn's better heh. I use 558's myself. They are definitely more comfortable over long periods of time.

Of course I've been waiting for these to drop back to $100 since Christmas, and I finally decide to just jump on the ATH-900Xs this morning for a slick $150. I wanted a good set for work. Am I better sticking with the 900Xs, or are the M50s a better value? The $50 difference is not a big deal to me.

Edit: Meh, just gonna stick with it. No second guessing!

ATH-M50s-LE-R are already modded correct? I'm thinking these are the best choice for me since I'd want them modded and shipping on the regular one is 11~ might as well shell out a bit extra and get LE.
Also want to add that I have been using HD 595s for 3 years now. Still working and are awesome. I don't have a long history of headphones, the ones before that were steel series sibera(hah). Would these be about the same as my 595's?

No the LE's do not have a detachable cable.

Yes, the ATH-M50s-LE-R has a detachable cable. That is what the -R in the part # denotes.

So the Special Edition ones are already modded to take patch cables? I don't understand the difference between that and then paying another 59 bucks for a removable cable and a locking adapter?

anyone thinking of buying this, i would highly recommend buying from a source where returns are simple, reliable and easy.......

i got this on amazon couple of months ago for about $113.....the quality of these headphones are great....but they didn't blow me away.....also, these are heavy and puts a lot of pressure on your ears.....my ears also felt suffocated inside there after just over 15mins.....my main reason to buy these were for air travel....and i felt i would not be able to wear them continuously for hours.....i returned them to amazon....the level uncomfort compared to audio quality didn't really feel like it's worth keeping....

that's one of the big differences between closed and open headphones in this price range. the open will usually be more comfortable.

Yes they're not super comfy but alot of closed headphones (I've tried in this range, akg k167, ath m50, beats solo [ trash], are not as comfortable as sennheiser's open (I do own the 595s, i understand what comfort you're talking about).

It's just closed headphones in general, I haven't found any under $200 that are as comfortable as open ones.

i got these phones originally from sound professionals along with a pair of IEMS and had no issue at all, especially when i got them with included IEMS that broke the first day. the return process was easy.

Also the detachable mod is alright, but I figure if you're going to pay $40+shipping, you might as well just upgrade and bypass and purchase the a900x.

No, the *stock* special edition headphones (ATH-M50s-LE) are not already modded. When we mod them, we give them a new part # that ends in a -R, like this (ATH-M50s-LE-R):

http://www.soundprofessionals.com...-M50s-LE-R

So, yes, the ATH-M50s-LE-R includes the modification. Lastly, the cost of the mod is $39, not $59

Thanks!
