Sony SS-F6000 Floorstanding Speakers $107 for a Pair + Free Ship Frys.com

Would these be good as front and back speakers? I currently have Sony SS-FVS310 speakers hooked up to a Pioneer VSX-521 receiver. Thanks

All kidding aside, these are fine entry level speakers, dorm/party speakers that you can kick around. You can't build 3 way speakers this cheap, no matter how cheap the drivers. I'm guessing the crossover in these is low end, and some cross-talk will occur. The redneck above was driving these off a budget T-amp, which is quite surprising seeing how these have a low 89dB sensitivity rating - not the most efficient speakers.

I am planning to get JBL ES80 for fronts, can i use these speaker for surrounds, would it be an overkill ?
And can any one suggest, if these would get along with JBL ES80 in terms of timber matching.

Are you implying negativity toward an average (not low) sensitivity rating of 89db/watt?

Would you rather have a higher sensitivity rating at the expense of low bass response?

89dB is actually pretty good for a pair of budget speakers. Same sensitivity as my Polk Monitor50 Series II set.

89dB may be taxing on an entry level AVR running 2 pair of these, plus a center.
My RTi series are 89dB, with dual binding posts. Run the straps on mine, and the impedance drops to 4 ohms.

Higher sensitivity speakers such as Klipsch rarely suffer from bass output, especially due to their sensitivity rating. Not sure where the parallel is there. Many more factors with low bass response issues. Normally, it's just the opposite. A demanding speaker won't put out the bass when the amp struggles to provide power.

Check your local Craigslist for receiver deals. I scored an older Marantz with a subwoofer for $50. Paired up with these speakers makes for a kick ass home theater on the cheap.
