Is it safe now, economical beyond the tourist traps, it looks phenomenal.

The problem with Iguacu is Brazil. The visa to go to Brazil is like $130 for the application (which takes a couple weeks..you cant just show up if from USA). The Argentine side is very pretty as well, but from memory, its the low side, looking up at the falls. Either way, the falls are maybe a few days at most sort of experience..and getting there is probably at least a few days (with connections and all). If you go, check out Mendoza in Argentina. Its a medium sized town in wine country, and it was probably my favorite stop on that trip.

But, really this is the wrong place for travel advice..why not give thorntree forums a try, I always find the most up to the minute info for areas on those forums. Enjoy your trip either way!!

Iguaçu falls is a nice place to visit. The falls themselves are amazing, much more impressive than Niagra Falls. Do you speak portuguese? if not, getting around may be a challenge, but not impossible. like most of Brasil, if you're out, you definitely need to be aware of your surroundings. if you feel unsafe of unsure of the neighborhood, it's best to avoid it (we had to do that several times). My wife is Brasilian and has friends in the Foz area, so we had some guidance as to where to go and whatnot.
