Too bad they don't support windows 8 on their extender yet, it really sucks that Microsoft had to break all devices to increase security, but I understand it.

It's sort of disgusting though, that such a media-based (see: touch sensitivity, metro ui, etc..) OS would completely ignore if not try to remove Media Center and it's capabilities nearly entirely.

It appears there were absolutely no changes to the software, besides breaking every extender (bar the Xbox).

Thankfully I use an xbox as an extender, but I still think it's ridiculous.

Yeah, they say that they are working with Microsoft on a solution, but I wonder how hard Microsoft is actually working on it. There is no incentive for Microsoft to add competition. Simple workaround, use Windows 7. The Media Center is basically the same plus support for other extenders.

Anyways, I thought this was a good deal. Best deal I've seen since the holidays.

It's 199.00 now. I would've bought at 179 minus 15% but reading all the most recent reviews, it seems like people have been having a lot of trouble lately with the device. If the final price point is around 150.00 then I'm in; otherwise, no sale.

He's referring to the Echo that is normally $179, but now is $152.15 after the 15% discount.

The tuner is normally $199 and after the 15% discount its $169.15. This price is for both the PCIe and USB versions. The USB version has been at $169 a couple of times recently, but this is the best price for the PCIe since the at least Christmas.

I ordered the PCIe as most of the problems are with the USB version, and I'd rather not have another box taking up space and a power outlet, along with the extra cables.

Does anyone know how much it cost monthly for the cable card?

I agree, the echo box is way overpriced!

It doesn't seem like you can do much more with an extender than you can do with a "smart" type box with DLNA capabilities, I think I paid $60 for a sony!

Comcast does not charge you for your first cable card. However, if you already have a DVR from them there is a cable card in it. On top of that comcast will charge you 8 dollars a month for an additional cable card. I know, I have both a dvr and cable card in my HD Homerun Prime.

Assuming the firmware gets released as they say, the Echo will be able to use Android apps as well. One box that can access my Windows Media Center and my Plex Media Server? That would be awesome.
