I believe AMD is not coming out with a gpu line this year and Nvidia is rumored to be Q3-Q4 for theirs, but those are rumors. If your in the market now this is a good deal

They're not voltage locked.

What these cards do suffer from though is extreme Vdroop under load and it's fairly significant. Let's say you set voltage to 1.3v - it will show as such under GPU-Z at idle but as soon as you put the card under load it'll drop anywhere from around 0.05v to 0.10v, which is huge. So even if you've cranked it to max you're still running sub-1.25v, which is stock for these cards. Thus it can appear that the voltage is suppressed.

As far as the new PCS 7870 XT goes, no real feedback on whether or not the newish cooler is any more effective or less noisy than the one on the Myst, so it's a crap shoot. IMO the 7950 is worth the extra cash though - more VRAM, more shaders, (possibly) better cooler.

Shipping is not free. It is pretty much 10 dollars cheaper unless stacking with 5% discover. I would pay extra 20 bux shopping with Amazon or newegg. I just dislike tigerdirect. Idk .. maybe it sounds like TD lol..

Which do people prefer for now and next year or so, Nvidia or ATI cards and why? Yes I know about how Nvidia only gives in game credit and not games as extra, don't really care. I know Tom's Hardware has a hierarchy chart and can check for similar.

Just want to know why people prefer one card over the other. I've owned both over the years and had ups and downs w/each. I will say that I feel that ATI has clumsier/laggier software in the Catalyst Control Center, but maybe that's just me and it doesn't truly affect performance.

Any help would be nice. Thinking about jumping on this card or looking for Nvidia depending. Thanks.

There was one at $260.99 with Far Cry, Hit Man, Sleeping Dogs, and coupon for MOH.

I'd love to get Nividia but they are more expensive than ATI. I hate ATI's CCC, a true disgrace and pest living inside my computer system.

Amd has it's problems but are generally cheaper. If you can deal with a bug here and there that you can fix amd is the frugal choice. Nvidia is better if you want something premium but amd isn't that far behind. I find I get more for my money with amd; and that's real.
