Fair enough only used two banks before got free checks at both so just assumed it was the norm. Usaa for example gives free ones

I believe your "YOU FIRST" (in your original post to me) was a clear indication that I, as the "young folk," don't understand the needs and wants of the older population.

Not only do you not have an idea of how old I am, but you seem to fail to notice that you've already done the exact same thing that you are accusing me of.

In any case, for the more useful part of your post, most retailers in this country do not have that type of service because there's a sizable population that refuses to adapt and change to newer tech. Part of it has to do with cost, sure, but some people just don't like change. Europe and Japan are way ahead of us because generations of people are more than willing to learn and adapt if it makes their lives easier.

Actually, I was simply referring to your complaint about the archaic form of payment, then forwarding to the current thoughts on how to fix that (a chip) which are extremely controversial for a variety of reasons (hence my YOU FIRST).

Your stereotyping started with your original post saying those who write checks are usually also old and slow. I actually agree... but I don't laugh at grandma when she's slow crossing the street either.

Crossing the street is not the same thing as writing a check.

Crossing the street is a necessity. One that people cannot live without.

Writing a check is an encumbrance. Easily avoidable with better, faster, and more convenient methods.

Most banks charge $3 or more to transfer funds to different banks and take 2-3 days for the same, check are free and take 2-3 days too ...

My bank charges nothing for an ACH transfer to another bank (in or out) and the ACH is posted the next buisness day if executed before noon or 2pm (can't recall ATM). My bank does charge for checks depending on the customers "relationship" with the bank.

Wells fargo charges $3 if I transfer my money electronically to another Bank, and so does Bank of America (Screen shot)

May be it is an account type depandant thing.
