Most places dont have vericheck where im from..you go up , write a check , they take it ,,just like its always been...its always nice to have a duplicate , that is unless of course you have a great deal of faith in our govt and their buddies the banksters. As for me i will keep a paper trail and not have them tracking me by whatever is on that credit card..a hundred different people make money off you swiping the govt card and by this i mean ALL credit and charge cards..so no its not archaic and its not inane..its a piece of paper that is cash

I get shitty when supermarkets ask me to sign for my purchase when I use my credit card. Writing a check would drive me insane.

I don't even understand what balancing a checkbook is. Is it updating your assumed balance to reflect the check you just wrote?

But using a check/bank also leaves a complete paper trail of the exact same information as a credit card. But it's less consumer friendly: no theft protection, no additional warranty, no emergency cash advance, no price matching, no roadside assistance (just for being a card member), no additional cash/miles/points earnings, no free rental car insurance, no automated category tracking on things you've bought, no ability to use it out of the country, no ability to purchase on credit, no building of credit history, no need to lug around a checkbook, etc.

And for the merchant: they take a substantial risk in accepting a non verified check. Hope and pray the funds are in the account, otherwise now the employer is on the hook to recover those funds, and they'll make your life miserable doing so.

What's stopping people from tracking your checks? They're processed electronically too, they turn into a scan, then into an entry in a database like a CC transaction. You can fake your "paper trail" so that's meaningless too.

Why do you think anyone give a damn about what you buy? Do you think someone is watching you? Are you really that interesting?

Why would I be worried if they "misplaced" my purchase? They can misplace all of them for all I care. I won't say anything.

Why would I be worried if they got my credit card purchase wrong? I dispute it and it goes away. The onus is on them to provide proof that I'm wrong.
