If you use your tablet mostly for internet browsing and email you don't need the newest ICS,GPS , ice cream cone , beef sandwich and versions 4.1 , 5.23 or 657.90 or any other new software updates they keep coming up with every few months for people to keep buying the newest and the greatest and keep updating those things all the time .....

This is a repost. It has been out of stock since previous post.
Also, consider you can get this in Amazon tax-free for $299, this is not that attractive. I think you can use 64GB SDXC in this. I recall reading about it when I studied what tablet to purchase. Last edited by stingraysix; 03-25-2013 at 04:22 AM.. |

I had a Nexus 7 and had to exchange it because the glass was loose from the body on one side. I got an exchange that took 2 weeks to get the replacement in my hands and another 4 weeks for Google to remove the hold on my CC (6 week total exchange process). It's made by ASUS and there sure seems to be a lot of ASUS models on sale lately. TF201, TF300, TF700 etc.
While the Tegra 3 in the Nexus 7 is fast and no bloatware for basic Android, the software felt sanitized and made for a stale user experience. The build quality and the materials on the Nexus 7 felt low-end (yes I know it's $199) and I eventually sold the exchange unit on craigslist because I felt like the glass was going to separate on that one any day. Every person that contacted me asked, "It doesn't have the white haze-screen problem does it?" I got a good deal on this Galaxy tab 2 10.1 a few weeks ago and, while it is plastic too, It feels like higher quality materials and build quality and it doesn't make strange clicking noises every time you pick it up like the Nexus 7. it's got TI's OMAP 4430 dual core processor, but I think Samsung has learned a lesson from Apple about optimizing software to work well with the processor. Plus I think the battery life is better due to the lower power processor. The tablet updated to JellyBean in January and it runs smooth and fast for me. One thing older processors have a hard time with are GIF's embedded on forum posts, and this Samsung handles them with no problem. Surfing the web is smooth and fast and Youtube videos load and play fine. Having TWO speakers on the FRONT makes for a much better sound. I am not a gamer, so I can't comment on that issue. Even though there is older technology under the hood, I am happier with this unit than the Nexus 7 (ASUS) and I would recommend it. I like the fact that Samsung already loads some common apps on the Tablet like Netflix and Google Music. Yes I know you can go to the store and get it, but it's nice they are already on there. Plus some extra's like Polaris Office, Peel TV remote app, photo editor, and Samsung's Reader app. I will probably buy another Samsung Tablet if they keep the same design/user philosophy with future tablets. |

On the other hand, I bought a Nexus 7 from the Play Store and it ended up having a problem with the charging cord after about 3 months. I had been putting it in a holder that put some pressure on the cord at an angle, so I think it might have actually been my fault. I called Google to get it replaced, which only took about 15 minutes. They sent me a new Tablet that I received about 3 days later. All I had to do was slap the broken tablet in a box, send it out with the pre-paid shipping label, and a few days later I got the confirmation they received it. Take from this what you will, but I'm not buying anything Samsung again. |
