and it fit fine and worked ok for me. Edit to add, that isn't my newegg review that says it works in a K55N, but that review was one of the reasons why I bought this stick in particular. |

Just got the Asus in the mail and it's really nice. Nice firm build, but I do see 2 scratches near the Asus logo, nearly a centimeter long each. Other than those, nothing else seems wrong. I only set it up in another language for parent, but so far a good deal.
Sometimes I wonder if I spend more than I save otherwise by joining SD but then I get distracted by all the nice things...Like...now...

If the stock stick is cas 11 then buying a cas 11 would be fine, if it was a cas 9, it would relax both sticks to run at 11 (if you're doing dual channel) and since ASUS laptop bios lack advanced memory timing settings then most likely it will revert to cas 11 for compatibility. (most of the time this can be changed on a PC with advanced settings but going by prebuilt laptops they usually don't have these so you're stuck with whatever they have preset or changing them while in windows) TL: DR, pretty much doesn't matter as much if you buy cas 9 or cas 11, if the stock is cas 9 it will still revert to 11, if it was cas 11, your cas 9 you bought will revert to 11 (granted if asus bios auto configs this). For me personally I bought the gskill 2x8gb kit cas9 because it was $50 free shipping anyway as opposed to $30 for just one stick hehe, on the other hand if you want to squeeze a little more out of it and spend a little extra you can buy the 1.35V versions which should run a little cooler and use a little bit less power (not drastic +hr) but it helps some. As long as you get that dual channel with the APU you should be good. Last edited by UZ7; 03-20-2013 at 12:09 PM.. |

got the computer today.. one odd thing, there was a password set for the administrator. i just reformatted the computer to bypass this. atleast now all the asus junk/spam programs are off.
![]() not a bad computer for the price. good for people who just surf the web and do light word processing, which is typically 98% off america. |

Got the laptop today. The report about the memory configuration is correct, it is a single 4GB stick. Speed is DDR3-1600 and its CAS 11.
Given that this notebook is running single channel out of the box, GPU performance is very constrained. I was able to overclock the GPU to 1300MHz, basically double the stock frequency, and at least got through 3DMark 06 at that speed. But the performance is barely better than stock, as single channel is just way too much of a bottleneck. A quick comparison with a 2nd gen Core i3 notebook in 3DMark 06: **Asus K55N (A8-4500M w/ Turbo, GPU @ 1300MHz, 4GBx1 DDR3-1600)** -SM2: 1553 -SM3: 1926 -CPU: 2439 **Acer Notebook (i3 2310M - 2.1GHz, HD 3000, 2GBx2 DDR3-1333) -SM2: 1519 -SM3: 1839 -CPU: 2608 So if you aren't upgrading the memory, it seems graphics performance is at about the level of HD 3000, so probably considerably slower than what you'd get in a newer notebook with a 3rd gen i3/i5 with HD 4000. I'll test in the future how dual channel changes things (I would expect performance to improve by 50%+). |

Just got mine yesterday.
Installed SSD drive and added 4GB of Ram, then did a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate, and she now moves along pretty well ![]() Got this for my wife, who's going back to school, and it'll do everything with plenty of power and speed for her needs. Thanks again OP! Edit: anyone doing a clean install who forgot to back up the drivers with "double driver", the needed items can be found here: http://support.asus.com/download....p=3&m=K55N and double driver is here: http://www.boozet.org/dd.htm Last edited by skeppley; 03-22-2013 at 10:11 AM.. |
