apart from killer smog bring enough clothes to last you for whole trip.it costs about 10 dollars to wash a shirt bring dollar bills maybe 300 to buy small things,and tips you go on factory tours a lot of them to buy over priced stuff,thats why your trip is cheap.you start off at 8am in the bus and don't get back until 8pm,to hotel don't get massage or dancers in hotel unless arraigned by tour guide as they are hookers,and will charge 500 dollars for massage,expect weather to be cold, Last edited by qldq; 03-17-2013 at 07:08 PM.. |

you'd have to get that visa now.
But seems like a good deal; you can always take cabs and go elsewhere, once at the factory BS stops, if you hate that kind of thing. |

BTW, in Beijing, april 2010, (a similar tour), I had 2 days of brilliant skies, clean air, warm temps. You never know!

it says you must be confirmed by march 7th for april 5th departure? does that rule out SFO then?

this 9 day tour cost like $50-100 bucks without plane tickets thru a travel agency in chinatown, new york. Paid $50 per person for a 7 day tour of shanghai, these things are a bit like timeshare but you do get free food, and free hotel etc.
A lot of tourists gets tricked into buying timeshare items, such as miracle cream etc blah blah. Silk, green tea you know the deal. It cost more for a native or citizen of china to go on these things. |

for the trip and the mentioned hotels, this trip is a bargain. 5 major cities in china with English speaking tour guide, pretty cool.

Protip, do not buy anything from the tourist destination shops-- you can buy them from local stores for 1/100th of the price. Yes, 1/100th!

been to hong kong/shenzhen, seoul, japan and even the dmz but not yet to beijing....all on business. sounds like a killer deal for the price but my next asia vacations are to vietnam, thailand, and singapore in that order.

Why would you be tipping people using dollars? You know they have their own currency right? If you gave a $1 bill to someone in a mom and pop store, they'd just ask you for real money. As for tipping, China is a no tipping culture. Why would you be tipping anyone? If you are in someplace where they want a tip, then you are in a tourist rip off joint. Even in Starbucks they don't have a tip jar. The question about this deal is can you stay longer than 9 days. 9 days is barely enough time to get over yet lag. Is the return date set in stone or can I book a return 2-3 months later? |

you can buy anything with dollar bills,in any market,thats what I learned when I was there,you will not have time to wash clothes,and you will not find cheap laundry,been there done that,unless you go into expensive stores clothes are old fashioned,expensive stores are double American prices,for same clothes,you tip your tour guides,give kids a dollar or two or beggers,at your meal they charge extra for beer,give them a dollar,the factory tours they bring you on are tourist rip off joints,they bring you to 3 or 4 a day,

As for Beijing. Beijing is not cheap. Not cheap at all. Someone I know that moved from Beijing to SF about 10 years ago was so happy that SF was so cheap. If I wanted to live dirt cheap, it would be a toss up between SF and Beijing where I could squeak by cheaper. Depending on the survey, Beijing is the 15th or 47th most expensive city in the world in 2012. San Francisco is an unknown, it didn't make the lists.
