Just because it's unlocked doesn't mean it will run on GSM carriers like ATT or Tmobile

That is a very false statement. Every version has different specs, check here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam...l_variants

Why the hell would I want to do that? If I'm paying $305 why not pay $50 more and get the proper version for the right carrier and have 4G speed.

If you like contracts and are eligible, get the subsidized s4 , unless you are on a verizon unlimited data plan, in which case a refurb/used s3 is your best solution.
If you like prepaid, then buy the used s3 that can use your favorite's carrier frequencies

Though probably not by much. Most people are satisfied with their s3 and don't see the need (plus don't want to pay a high price)

I actually have an S3 and I was really looking forward to the S4. I even watched the announcement live on youtube when Samsung had their unveiling. If you want a phone that will be VERY similar to the S4 minus having a removable battery and no microSD slot (but it comes in 32GB and 64GB sizes. I like the storage space!) check out the HTC One. It comes out in a week or two. It should be priced about the same as the S4. People are reviewing it and are saying its pretty awesome. The build quality is better than the iPhone I've heard. It feels and looks like a very premium high quality item. I just hope its less money than the S4. That would be good!
