OK, my current setup:

• Cable box
• PS3
• DVD player (region-free)
• PC
• Roku

That's five right there. PC and PS3 are switched off most of the time; if I want to ping around Netflix, I use the Roku. I may pick up a 50Hz-capable Blu-ray player at some point, as there are a number of British shows I like. So yeah, four is a bit constraining. I only have four HDMI inputs on my TV, so I got a $30 Monoprice 4-to-1 switch and put the Roku and DVD player on that.

I'm in the same boat as you, my Harman Kardon AVR 510 was a great receiver 12 years ago, but it only does analog video (component, S-video, composite), so most of the time, it's just doing optical-to-5.1 using the optical out of my TV while I switch the HDMI input selection on the TV. The setup works, which is why I'm mainly window-shopping right now. I haven't yet found a "must-have" receiver in terms of features, price, etc.

Higher Fidelity audio equiptment does not come in an all in one package. Audiophiles will always choose seperate components; Seperate receiver, speakers, seperate sub, video/audio source and potentially other components.

This receiver could be considered entry level for a component receiver despite pricing that some people would expect to pay for a home theatre in a box, but comparing the difference side by side there is no comparison.

Why would someone own 3 different game consoles you can only play one at a time and why would you need to have them all plugged in at the same time? I would think a HTPC would be connected to the receiver's network port. The most HDMI inputs currently on a A/V receivers is 9 and those receivers will cost you around $1500 and up. Someone would own 3 consoles because the games & entertainment options are different. You plug them all in at the same time because un/plugging them is inconvenient. Condescend much?

Please be aware that this receiver doesn't support WiFi. So to use the network features (like Airplay, satellite radio, Iphone remote app) you would either need to connect it via a physical ethernet cable to your router or if that's not feasable spend $30-$50 to buy a Wifi Bridge or some other device to make it WiFi ready. I don't think its USB supports the USB Wifi Dongles like some other receivers do. Just something to consider as added cost for whomsoever a physical ethernet is not available at the receiver placement position.

OK, You can move up to the Yamaha RX-V673 it has 6 HDMI inputs, Fry's had it on sale for $400 three weeks ago.

Does anyone have experience running Klipsch speakers through this amp, or any similar Yamaha amps? I am planning to eventually pull the trigger on a pair of Heresy IIIs, and want to understand if this will mate well with them.

This receiver is not that high end so the match up with speakers is not that critical.
However depending on personal taste, and if you can help in general: this 573 has tendency to give out warm sound, based on common sense you should not have this receiver matching with speakers that also give warm sound

It doesn't, that chart is in error. You need to move up to the 673 to get the nice onscreen GUI.

Most receivers don't support WiFi the only one I know of is the Sony STR-DN1030 which comes with WiFi and Bluetooth Built-In. Currently on sale for $400 at Best Buy http://www.hometheater.com/conten...v-receiver
