I've seen a few contradicting reviews -- can you change the zone(either volume levels, or disable/enable) from the app? Or is the remote required? I'm looking to use this receiver from another room and that would be pretty important.
Also, is there any market for old AVRs? If I get this I would be replacing a Yamaha RX-V661 and would love to be able to recoup some of the cash.
Seems the Sony is 7.2 and bluetooth/wifi built-in, however no 4k passthrough, plus the extra $100. On a side-note, can someone describe the term "warm sound"? I've seen it thrown around a bit here and the internet definitions I've been reading haven't been too friendly. Last edited by podonnell; 03-18-2013 at 12:57 PM.. |

Cable box PS3 Xbox 360 Wii U Pivos AIOS I'm already at 5, and while I doubt I'll be adding anything else in the near future, I can't see myself going with a receiver that doesn't have at least 6 rear HDMI inputs. Silly not to allow yourself any room to grow. |

I pulled the trigger on this receiver. It looks like pretty darn good reviews for something a $300 price. Looking to power my living room AV set up and outdoor speakers in a new house I'm moving into where cabling will not be a problem (new walls make things so much easier). Looking forward to playing with it

$249 is before shipping. $299 from amazon is free shipping and also it's not a cheap knock off. It's the real deal. |

Lets see for some questions.
The GUI interface means you can display the receiver options on the TV instead of just the display on the receiver. (not all that pretty on my older Yamaha, but more complete then on the limited receiver display) If you want to keep your (insert brand here) speakers to use with the receiver, if you look at the picture of the back, you will see all of the speaker terminals. If your speakers have the push in plugs, very simple. If they don't or are bare wire, strip off about 1/2 inch, unscrew the connector, insert the wire & tighten down. Do this 2 times for each speaker. (you can also buy plugs from Monoprice & others, but you still strip wire, open screw, insert wire & tighten down & then plug in the connector. That is easier for future moves of the equipment) For the (why do you need 80 HDMI inputs for your 70 gaming systems, you can only play 1 at a time), convince is the word. It is much easier to have all of your goodies plugged in as most of if not all connectors are in the BACK then to constantly swap out the connector for what you want to use next. (then there is the wear & tear on the jacks that may not be designed for constant swappage! )Myself, not too worried about upconversion. I have my players output to the TV HDMI, so they bypass the receiver (and my Blu-Ray players have upconversion, even the one with a VCR combo! (only up-convert VCR to 480.) . The TV then feeds the receiver the sound. that way if I don't want booming 7.1 sound, leave the receiver off. Even 3D works this way, regardless of receivers abilities there ![]() Yea I have to change source on the TV, no big deal & Harmony one can help!
