There is a consumer report rating on protein products. I believe the link is available on their site.

There's lots of good information regarding the link between dietary cholesterol intake (in eggs) with overall cholesterol levels in these articles and the references within.
http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/75/2/333.full http://jn.nutrition.org/content/134/1/187.full It seems that the poor egg has been demonized over the year when people starting seeing as high cholesterol and heart disease / stroke as causation. However, I am in the opinion that in most healthy, active, adults with a balanced diet, dietary cholesterol has a miniscule role in raising LDL. It seems that saturated fats are one of the main culprits in this. As for me, I regular eat 5 eggs a day and have the lowest LDL I've had in years. My HDL levels are also at their highest. I also doubt that I'm an outlier in this case. However, I do have a balanced diet, I count my calories and balance my macros, and I regularly do cardio and heavy weightlifting. |

The ONLY person who MIGHT benefit would be pro bodybuilders due to their strict dietary needs. Bodybuilders of the past did not have the proteins we have now and they were still HUGE! My proteins are a mix of the more expensive and some cheaper stuff. EVERYTHING in moderation. I know some guys in the gym who buy that expensive sh*t only to look like crap, and I buy the cheaper stuff and look 10 times better and they tell me so! What's a travesty is to buy the expensive stuff, and some guy on cheap Walmart protein blows by you! Guys, don't waste your money, if you can get a good deal then get it, but if you think expensive protein is going to turn you into a muscle-monster then your going to get a rude awakening, in your pocket-book AND in your results. Organic foods is 90% marketing hype and 10% substance, yet the people who are willing to shell out 2-3 times as much money think it's the other way around. Imagine if the price of food went up 200% tomorrow what kind of backlash against the government there would be? Why would you self impose such inflation on yourself when the benefits are so incrementally small (in most cases, with protein powder being one of them)? |
