(Dumb to not buy Apple Care at $52, but $104 hmmm)
Statistically, it's dumb to buy the extended warranty at either price. You come out better rolling the dice and the saving the $ you would have wasted on the warranty. Even if you occasionally have to shell out your own $ for repairs or replacements, you still come out ahead.
Besides, most major credit cards at least double the manufacturer's warranty.
It's got integrated Ivy Bridge Intel graphics. Which is decent enough. You're not going to be blown away by it, but if you're getting a Mac, you're a little bit resigned to the fact that gaming comes slower to the Mac platform than it does to PC.
From looking at the specs, the i5 processor looks good, but the integrated video card is a bit shabby (not good). You can get away with playing most games smoothly on lowest settings. If you're a light gamer, this is probably fine. If you'll mainly be using your desktop for gaming, stick with a Windows machine. Pretty much all worthwhile games nowadays play much better on Windows anyway. I've been a Mac user for about 4 years, and love how intuitive and snappy everything is, but when it comes to gaming, sometimes I wish I had a PC.
Does this work well with AirPlay mirroring to an Apple TV of network programming shows online?
Any mac after 2011 supports airplay mirroring, so yes. I have a retina macbook pro, 2011 mac mini, 21.5 slim imac, and a base model 11" macbook air, and across the board they all stream the picture exactly alike. This is more dependent on your internet connection, but I think generally you should be okay.
Wow is that possible? Could I get CBS shows such as TBBT or AppleTV/hulu hating Fox shows such as the Simpsons on my apple TV using this?
You will get a button on the menu bar that can mirror the entire screen to your apple tv and function as a dual monitor wirelessly if you have your mini hooked up to a monitor (many people hook these up to their tv's anyways). However there is only an option to mirror and not extend the desktop screen (at least out of the box).
So basically, yes, you can do anything you can on the computer and beam it to your apple tv and have it display on the tv. It is also possible to stream your iOS device screen via airplay.
ONE HUGE reason why the mac mini surpasses ANY other competitive pc/computer on the market is it's resale value. It far surpasses any PC and even other macs. I have a 2011 model and checking around craigslist and ebay, I can still sell it for 450 easily (bought for 549 shipped in 5/11). Heck, theres a 6 year old plastic model core 2 duo ending in 7 minutes on ebay for 380 with 23 bids...
try that with any comparable production model PC.
