Damn you Amazon!
Been looking to upgrade my HT setup. Just pulled the trigger on the amp that was on sale yesterday (Yamaha 573 for $299). I was waiting for the Monoprice speakers to come back available, but I may just pull the trigger on these. Anyone heard these vs the Monoprice? Edit: Probably pretty much the same price (after shipping) for these vs the Monoprice and the Monoprice has a 5 yr warranty vs 1 yr. Considering I'll be using Amazon Gift cards bought with my Chase Freedom (5% off)....Looking more and more like I'll be pulling the trigger on this set. Anybody have any feedback on my thinking? That said, I bought the 5.0 set for $150 and picked up two Pioneer SW-8's for around $120 ($270 total). I'm relatively happy with the set, but I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay $300 for the set with just one subwoofer. Like someone else said, I'd look into the Pioneer Andrew Jones set. I've seen the 2nd generation bookshelves go for $70 a pair. Four of those, the Pioneer center, and an SW-8 (all on sale) is still cheaper than this set (~280 on sale, ideally). |

Actually If space is a limitation, I , personally prefer to just go with a 2 larger bookshelf speaker instead, I tested with so many small size speakers (in this price range ) 2.5 to 3.25 size woofers and doesn't matter how good the reviews are they just can't compare to a larger bookshelfs (for overall sound), unless you have to have the speakers on the wall, the larger bookshelfs actually saves me more space; Lots of times reviews are very misleading, I wish people would give feedback according to what other speakers and size of the speakers they have experience and compare to, what kind of sound do the speaker put out, (bright, neutral, warm, boomy), highs, mids, lows, level of distortion and soundstage, the term they sound great are just too generic. |

great speakers. i suggest waiting for the 5.0 speakers for $140. they're around that price every year around this time. I picked up a set last year and matched it with energy esw-c10 and it sounds great with my 12 year old receiver. mind you, i have a 300 sqft living room and didnt want large floor standing speakers that wouldn't match my room's decor.
i also used monoprice speaker stand with bolts found from home depot for the rear speakers. |
