Deal Details

urlhasbeenblocked is now offering a 2GB VPS for $40 per year, this time with 2 IPv4 addresses and now offer an additional location option (Atlanta)

UPDATE: The wiki went bye-bye, don't know why. Look at post 5 for most of what was in there.

UPDATE: I just found a code that seems to give you almost the same deal at $30, 2GBYR
More info from Kevin:
to clarify about the $30/yr deal. It is valid for the "Enterprise" plan listed here: http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html. It only includes 1x IP, and is only valid for our Chicago, Buffalo, and LA location (Not Atlanta). The $40/yr STEALOFADEAL offer is separate order links like I gave you earlier, and includes 2 IP addresses. It is also available in our new location Atlanta.

This is not technically a repost, because the other thread about this particular deal got deleted. The STEALOFADEAL offer actually costs $10 more than the previous deals, and it comes with 2 IP addresses.

2048MB (2GB) Dedicated Ram
50 GB Diskspace
2TB Monthly Bandwidth
100Mbps Port
2x IPv4 Address with STEALOFADEAL
1x IPv4 Address with 2GBYR code, but $10 less, but no Atlanta
SolusVM/OpenVZ
Instant Setup (most of the time)
Free Backups
3 or 4 Location Choices: Los Angeles, Chicago, Buffalo, (Atlanta on the $40 code)

$40/year with promo code "STEALOFADEAL" & 2 IP addresses
Order in Chicago, IL - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=160
Order in Buffalo, NY - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=161
Order in Los Angeles, CA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=162
Order in Atlanta, GA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=163

$30/yr deal. with 1 IP address and no Atlanta
http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html - Choose Enterprise, 1 year recurring

The promo code to use is STEALOFADEAL or 2GBYR- over $200+ in savings Just be sure to select the 12 month billing cycle when ordering then on the next page you will find the option to enter in the promo code. This price doesn't go up after the year is up either.

When signing up, use an easy password, and change it later. Some folks had trouble with complicated password during signup.

Disclaimer: I don't work for, nor am I anyway associated with urlhasbeenblocked. I have one VPS with this company, and I paid $40 for it. They aren't giving me anything. Yes, I know they should, but they haven't. shake head

What is this, you may ask? It is an online Linux computer that you have root access to, and can install and run practically anything. Read the TOS, 'cause that doesn't include P2P sharing, folding, bit coin mining, seti stuff, and anything else stupid like that, that might kill the performance for everyone else.

Anyways, like I said, you get root access to a Linux box, and when you screw that up, no problem, they give you a control panel that lets you reinstall a new OS in minutes. Pretty cool. With a small effort, you can even vnc into it with a full GUI.

Don't expect the world from this, you get more than you pay for. Think twice before you bet your business on this, although I think there are people that do.

Anyone here have success in having the zpanel dns manager actually work?

I have to do everything in the SolusVM DNS manager....I submitted a ticket. First response was

"if you use your own nameservers you have to use our DNS panel"

to which I replied

"but I am using your nameservers, not my own"

to which they responed

"If you use our nameservers, you have to use our DNS panel"

at first I am like O.o, then I am like 0.O, and now I am like x.x.

Sounds like there is no choice but to use their DNS panel and not able to use the zpanel DNS manager?

Why wouldn't they just say "you have to use our DNS panel no matter what'

I remember reading about how to get around this issue in the last thread before it was deleted...but...the thread...was deleted...

That is incorrect, we allow gameservers and have many clients doing this already. Smilie

Not sure if this is possible, but can I run two proxy servers simultaneously since we are allocated 2 x IP's?
Yep - that is definitely possible. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello, urlhasbeenblocked offers free DNS hosting to all customers as a courtesy. It is 100% optional and is provided at no cost for the convenience of our customers. With that said, because its optional you have the choice whether to use our DNS hosting or to run/manage your own DNS nameservers. Some prefer to use ours because it takes the hassle away from them and our DNS servers are diversely spread out across the US, while others prefer to manage their own.

If you are using our nameservers (which are ns4 to ns7.urlhasbeenblocked.net) then you must set up your domain in the VPS control panel [urlhasbeenblocked.net] by navigating to the "DNS Manager" tab after logging in. After adding it, you can configure your domain's DNS zones from there accordingly.

Thanks,

Kevin

I am pretty sure zpanel has no way of interacting with dns servers other than one that is on the same machine hosting zpanel.

So I am pretty sure you need to run your own dns server.

It's not the datacenter. I'm in Buffalo (node 4, I believe) and that site didn't have any problems to my node. It's probably a specific node with issues.
How do you check what node you are on?

You need to setup your own private nameservers. This kind of explains it a bit.

Alternatively, you can use CVPS's nameservers.

Anyone know how to fix an error loading the file manager in Webmin?
I changed the font in file manager config from the default 12 points to user chosen 14 points. Now the java applet gives ma an error:
ava.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "14 points"
at java.lang.NumberFormatException.forInputString(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Integer.parseInt(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Integer.parseInt(Unknown Source)
at FileManager.make_font(FileManager.java:334)
at FileManager.init(FileManager.java:97)
at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2Manager$AppletExecutionRunnable.run(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
Exception: java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "14 points"

Without being able to enter the file manager how do I change the config back to default?

I wouldn't mind using the CVPS nameservers, but when using zpanel and setting up domains and sub-domains and stuff, they don't work because it cannot manage the DNS itself. I am not sure the mail stuff even works, i tried setting up some simple fowards, but they aren't working either.

I guess I should just stick with cpanel with my other host...I know this is unmanaged and not for newbs. But others were saying what a breeze it was to get zpanel on there and working. Which I did, for the most part, it's just not fully functional due to the DNS management.

I was hoping to be able to centralize everything here and not have to bounce all over to manage different sites and whatnot. But so far I have wasted more time than I wanted and gotten nowhere.

Plus, bouncing between 5 different control panels is giving me a headache. Between my registrar, some older hosts, current host and then this new VPS...

To the others considering getting this, with little experience, zpanel definitely helps but not fully functional unless you know how to setup and manage a DNS server on your VPS. Unless you do so, I don't believe you can manage mail stuff, domains (not without going into the external SolusVM DNS Manager), sub-domains, etc etc.

Haven't tried zPanel (using Virtualmin), but I'd be surprised if zPanel doesn't have any DNS functionality. Try reading through the article I posted. It helps explain a little bit about DNS. Might be useful for your long term knowledge anyways.

Use SSH or SFTP.

Clicq would be correct. You'll need to manage/run your own DNS nameservers if you want to use zPanel's DNS manager.

Thanks,

Kevin

It does. If you know how to setup your own DNS server and your own nameservers.

I started reading about DNS Glue, multiple IPs, registering your nameservers, setting up DNS itself on your server...and...eh, maybe when I have a day to throw away I might delve into all that. But that's really more than I need/want to know just to enable zpanel's DNS capabilities.

If I understand what I'm reading, I think zpanel sets up a dns server when you install it, so I think all you need to do is point your registrar to your VPS... Though I haven't tried it myself.

Well, that was the feeling I got too...but....the only way to get DNS entries to actually resolve is by using the SolusVM DNS.

I registered a hostname with godaddy (part of setting up a private nameserver from what I understand) ns1.domain.tld and point it to both my IPs.

Once that approves, I'll point the nameservers entries at my registrar at it and see how that goes.
