Deal Details

urlhasbeenblocked is now offering a 2GB VPS for $40 per year, this time with 2 IPv4 addresses and now offer an additional location option (Atlanta)

UPDATE: The wiki went bye-bye, don't know why. Look at post 5 for most of what was in there.

UPDATE: I just found a code that seems to give you almost the same deal at $30, 2GBYR
More info from Kevin:
to clarify about the $30/yr deal. It is valid for the "Enterprise" plan listed here: http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html. It only includes 1x IP, and is only valid for our Chicago, Buffalo, and LA location (Not Atlanta). The $40/yr STEALOFADEAL offer is separate order links like I gave you earlier, and includes 2 IP addresses. It is also available in our new location Atlanta.

This is not technically a repost, because the other thread about this particular deal got deleted. The STEALOFADEAL offer actually costs $10 more than the previous deals, and it comes with 2 IP addresses.

2048MB (2GB) Dedicated Ram
50 GB Diskspace
2TB Monthly Bandwidth
100Mbps Port
2x IPv4 Address with STEALOFADEAL
1x IPv4 Address with 2GBYR code, but $10 less, but no Atlanta
SolusVM/OpenVZ
Instant Setup (most of the time)
Free Backups
3 or 4 Location Choices: Los Angeles, Chicago, Buffalo, (Atlanta on the $40 code)

$40/year with promo code "STEALOFADEAL" & 2 IP addresses
Order in Chicago, IL - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=160
Order in Buffalo, NY - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=161
Order in Los Angeles, CA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=162
Order in Atlanta, GA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=163

$30/yr deal. with 1 IP address and no Atlanta
http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html - Choose Enterprise, 1 year recurring

The promo code to use is STEALOFADEAL or 2GBYR- over $200+ in savings Just be sure to select the 12 month billing cycle when ordering then on the next page you will find the option to enter in the promo code. This price doesn't go up after the year is up either.

When signing up, use an easy password, and change it later. Some folks had trouble with complicated password during signup.

Disclaimer: I don't work for, nor am I anyway associated with urlhasbeenblocked. I have one VPS with this company, and I paid $40 for it. They aren't giving me anything. Yes, I know they should, but they haven't. shake head

What is this, you may ask? It is an online Linux computer that you have root access to, and can install and run practically anything. Read the TOS, 'cause that doesn't include P2P sharing, folding, bit coin mining, seti stuff, and anything else stupid like that, that might kill the performance for everyone else.

Anyways, like I said, you get root access to a Linux box, and when you screw that up, no problem, they give you a control panel that lets you reinstall a new OS in minutes. Pretty cool. With a small effort, you can even vnc into it with a full GUI.

Don't expect the world from this, you get more than you pay for. Think twice before you bet your business on this, although I think there are people that do.

They probably checked IP address for posters like you and found out they all come from same IP. How much longer will you be bumping this oversold VPS hosting topic, boys? Any ETA on this?
save the drama for your mama. like anyone who runs a VPS hosting company doesnt have dozens of IPs to post from Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) lol whos the shill now?

itd be nice to know why an informational thread that was helping alot of SDers got deleted. if there were problem users or shills in the thread, why not just ban them?

anywho, nice deal and thx to SFerret for the info. reposts! Smilie

I love my VPS through these guys. Their customer service was excellent the few times I had problems. Most recently I put TinyTinyRSS on there as a google reader replacement. Big recommend for me...at ~$3/mo, it's hard to go wrong with it.

Thanks for your bump! Wink

Reasons why this is still a good deal for many of us (and thus like posting here):

1) For people like me that want to spend more time on Linux, but don't want to have a dedicated box in the house, or a virtual box taking up resources locally.
2) If you screw something up, you can start over in minutes.
3) Because it's so easy to check out that many distros, and switch to another in minutes.
4) They actually have decent tech support.
5) At $2.50 to $3.33 per month (depending on which plan you choose), it's an excellant value. I know people that tip their barista more than that every day.
6) I personally enjoy pissing off all the snobs that act like I have no business having one of these if I am not a total Linux expert. I encourage all Linux noobs to get one, then come in here and ask all sorts of noob questions.

And why do care why a thread gets bumped? Just ignore the thread already. Or come in here and bump it again. I can't believe someone bumped a thread just to complain about it being bumped!

And they can check my IP all they want.

One problem I've had with VPS is sending email from them. Often the IP addresses get flagged as sources of spam from previous owners - and abusers - of the IPs. If they are so flagged, you will have a heckuva time persuading various list-keeping groups and email providers that your innocent one-a-day emails are not the start of a spam flood of Titanic proportions. Sigh. You are guilty unless you turn yourself inside out to prove yourself innocent.

Tried to pay with two different credit cards and it failed on both. I'm already signed up, so I think I can try again later (bill says due by Mar 23rd).

I had this problem when I signed up when the deal was first posted a few weeks ago. I think they said you could open a ticket with the invoice number and they would push it through on that card, but I just wound up paying with paypal (no issues there).

Could you maybe link the directions you used to do this? I'm really interested. Thanks!

I put in a mod alert last night asking admins what was the deal with the thread and if it was violating some policy or something...

Still no response, rather unusual as they usually answer and close mod alerts with a few hours.

Really? Seriously? You think these sinister, nefarious people you seem to think are populating this thread would all be using the same IP if they were shills?

And — that it's apparently an impossible concept that people new to SD might find a deal that looked good on here and then sign up for SD?

Have you had them set up rDNS for you yet? If you look at the error codes of the email that gets bounced back you should be able to see if it's actually spam related or if it's just because you haven't set up rDNS - AOL for instance will bounce your emails back if you haven't

"Please open a support ticket at https://billing.chicagovps.net and state the IP address of the server and what you would like the entry to be set to. Please remember to have a forward DNS entry the same as the reverse entry or we will not set the request."

You probably won't get an answer. The thread, or the employees responding ticked off SD. Hence the previous thread(s) gone, wiki gone, and thumbs up capped.

For some reason, these deals rubbed SD admins/mods the wrong way.
I think the original thread for this on Black Friday even went FP.

Has anyone figured out what firewall settings to use when running a PPTP server?
