Deal Details

urlhasbeenblocked is now offering a 2GB VPS for $40 per year, this time with 2 IPv4 addresses and now offer an additional location option (Atlanta)

UPDATE: The wiki went bye-bye, don't know why. Look at post 5 for most of what was in there.

UPDATE: I just found a code that seems to give you almost the same deal at $30, 2GBYR
More info from Kevin:
to clarify about the $30/yr deal. It is valid for the "Enterprise" plan listed here: http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html. It only includes 1x IP, and is only valid for our Chicago, Buffalo, and LA location (Not Atlanta). The $40/yr STEALOFADEAL offer is separate order links like I gave you earlier, and includes 2 IP addresses. It is also available in our new location Atlanta.

This is not technically a repost, because the other thread about this particular deal got deleted. The STEALOFADEAL offer actually costs $10 more than the previous deals, and it comes with 2 IP addresses.

2048MB (2GB) Dedicated Ram
50 GB Diskspace
2TB Monthly Bandwidth
100Mbps Port
2x IPv4 Address with STEALOFADEAL
1x IPv4 Address with 2GBYR code, but $10 less, but no Atlanta
SolusVM/OpenVZ
Instant Setup (most of the time)
Free Backups
3 or 4 Location Choices: Los Angeles, Chicago, Buffalo, (Atlanta on the $40 code)

$40/year with promo code "STEALOFADEAL" & 2 IP addresses
Order in Chicago, IL - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=160
Order in Buffalo, NY - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=161
Order in Los Angeles, CA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=162
Order in Atlanta, GA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=163

$30/yr deal. with 1 IP address and no Atlanta
http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html - Choose Enterprise, 1 year recurring

The promo code to use is STEALOFADEAL or 2GBYR- over $200+ in savings Just be sure to select the 12 month billing cycle when ordering then on the next page you will find the option to enter in the promo code. This price doesn't go up after the year is up either.

When signing up, use an easy password, and change it later. Some folks had trouble with complicated password during signup.

Disclaimer: I don't work for, nor am I anyway associated with urlhasbeenblocked. I have one VPS with this company, and I paid $40 for it. They aren't giving me anything. Yes, I know they should, but they haven't. shake head

What is this, you may ask? It is an online Linux computer that you have root access to, and can install and run practically anything. Read the TOS, 'cause that doesn't include P2P sharing, folding, bit coin mining, seti stuff, and anything else stupid like that, that might kill the performance for everyone else.

Anyways, like I said, you get root access to a Linux box, and when you screw that up, no problem, they give you a control panel that lets you reinstall a new OS in minutes. Pretty cool. With a small effort, you can even vnc into it with a full GUI.

Don't expect the world from this, you get more than you pay for. Think twice before you bet your business on this, although I think there are people that do.

Just use namecheap's free DNS service. It works well and then you don't have to deal with the hassle of managing yet another service. Smilie
Can you create and manage subdomains from there? It would be better in the control panel in the sense that it creates and manages directories for each subdomain.

You cannot create subdomain with namecheap once you've setup the name servers there, but IMO the interface for registering nameservers is both easier AND faster with namecheap. You can then setup subdomains in whatever panel you use (I use Zpanel and really like it.)

Wait, and the subdomains work like that? I thought subdomains on zpanel only work if you have DNS server managed by ZPanel?

Can you tell me exactly what you have setup?

This might have been asked already, but is the $40 price recurring or will it go up after the first year?

Absolutely, if you go into your namecheap panel and click on a domain under "Advanced Options" on the left side you will see "Nameserver registration" from there you add in your root ip address from your VPS (19X.XX.XXX.XXX) in the boxes for NS1 and NS2 with your domain. Click save and then go to "Domain Server Setup" under the general category, and in there enter your NS1.DOMAIN.XXX that you setup in the last step, do this for NS1 and NS2.

When you setup the domain in Zpanel it should have automagically setup your DNS entries already as NS1.DOMAIN.XXX for NS1 and NS2, but if not then Go into the "DNS Manager" in Zpanel, choose your domain and then ensure that the settings in "A" for NS1 and NS2 show your IP address(es) and on the NS tabe that is has n1.DOMAIN.xxx and ns2.Domain.xxx in the targe fields (@) should be in the hostname field.

For subdomains they are setup to automatically point to that same name server, meaning that to my knowledge you cannot have car.domain.com pointing to a different Name server tham domain.com, BUT you can certainly create its own file structure and database if you choose to do so for instance with forum.domain.com you may want a forum rather than a wordpress setup in domain.com (or whatever you choose to use.)

Zpanel took a while for me to get the hang of, but it's really pretty good, I found as well that sometimes you may need to reboot your machine to get the DNS to work correctly, this has only happened to me once, but a simple "Sudo reboot" fixed it up just fine, and since the box boots up so quickly it's no big deal to me.

Okay that is how I had my namecheap settings setup since yesterday, but I'm not sure on the zpanel. This is what I have in zpanel: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/40710/DNS.PNG

Is it correct? Notice that NS1 has the first IP and NS2 has the second IP. Is that correct?

Assuming what you have in those Censored boxes are just IP addresses, then yes, that looks OK. Keep in mind that you will need to set an MX record for mail to actually be delivered successfully.

I am very satisfied since I grabbed this deal a few weeks ago. I'm thinking about grabbing another for external image hosting. I once paid $75 a month for VPS service. Granted that was semi managed. But this has forced me to learn new things which is fun.

Anyone use an external image host before? Should it be in a different data center than the site is hosted?

So, for the last week I've been trying to get the IP address that came with the VPS unblocked by all the email providers because when I reply to people emailing me, my replies get bounced back by their email provider. If you've ever done this, you know what a real pita it is, because you have to contact each of them directly using their awful forms.

Apparently the IP I was assigned was used for some serious spamming before it found its way to me. rDNS is set, but the messages are all still being returned because of a permanent IP block. Frown
Mine were to. I got a positive reply from aol so far but that's it.

While configuring, setting up and administering a mail server can be a fun (for some) and good learning opportunity, it's generally way more work then it's worth. I say this as someone who has spent a lot of time doing just that with various *nix based mail packages.

Dealing with spam, access lists, anti-virus/malware filtering, certs, etc. is an ongoing job. Not to mention, as many are noticing, dealing with blacklists. Most companies outsource this to third party providers (Google, Hosted Exchange, MXLogic, etc.). And the average user who might only need a handful of email addresses for themselves, family and friends can often find much better options for free or close to it.

GApps for Business used to offer a free version, but they killed it a year or so ago. I still have three or four accounts though, and use one quite extensively, and was lucky to be grandfathered in.

Another free alternative to Google Apps is Windows Live (https://domains.live.com/Signup/S...omain.aspx). Sure it's Microsoft, but their new interface is pretty spiffy!

Anyone get Asterisk working with google voice on this?

VPS Service is great. Picked up 2 of them. Using one for backup server and the other for a PBX with google voice hopefully. If I can figure asterisk out. Smilie

Admin interface is good. Getting good speeds. They really exceeded my expectations. I currently run 2 dedicated servers and a VPS from wiredtree and I have to say that I can't really tell the difference. Great experience so far. Can't beat the price!

I do! It is a bit daunting at first; maybe I'll write up some instructions and post them... which linux distribution are you running?

EDIT: I wrote up what I remember: http://clicq.crabdance.com/vpswik...rvers:voip

We should be able to get yozh migrated without an IP change as the node we are migrating him to is on the same VLAN. We'll continue to keep him updated via his support ticket Smilie

Different topic but since you are monitoring this thread, is this deal for the lifetime of the account or will it go up after the first year?
