Deal Details

urlhasbeenblocked is now offering a 2GB VPS for $40 per year, this time with 2 IPv4 addresses and now offer an additional location option (Atlanta)

UPDATE: The wiki went bye-bye, don't know why. Look at post 5 for most of what was in there.

UPDATE: I just found a code that seems to give you almost the same deal at $30, 2GBYR
More info from Kevin:
to clarify about the $30/yr deal. It is valid for the "Enterprise" plan listed here: http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html. It only includes 1x IP, and is only valid for our Chicago, Buffalo, and LA location (Not Atlanta). The $40/yr STEALOFADEAL offer is separate order links like I gave you earlier, and includes 2 IP addresses. It is also available in our new location Atlanta.

This is not technically a repost, because the other thread about this particular deal got deleted. The STEALOFADEAL offer actually costs $10 more than the previous deals, and it comes with 2 IP addresses.

2048MB (2GB) Dedicated Ram
50 GB Diskspace
2TB Monthly Bandwidth
100Mbps Port
2x IPv4 Address with STEALOFADEAL
1x IPv4 Address with 2GBYR code, but $10 less, but no Atlanta
SolusVM/OpenVZ
Instant Setup (most of the time)
Free Backups
3 or 4 Location Choices: Los Angeles, Chicago, Buffalo, (Atlanta on the $40 code)

$40/year with promo code "STEALOFADEAL" & 2 IP addresses
Order in Chicago, IL - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=160
Order in Buffalo, NY - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=161
Order in Los Angeles, CA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=162
Order in Atlanta, GA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=163

$30/yr deal. with 1 IP address and no Atlanta
http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html - Choose Enterprise, 1 year recurring

The promo code to use is STEALOFADEAL or 2GBYR- over $200+ in savings Just be sure to select the 12 month billing cycle when ordering then on the next page you will find the option to enter in the promo code. This price doesn't go up after the year is up either.

When signing up, use an easy password, and change it later. Some folks had trouble with complicated password during signup.

Disclaimer: I don't work for, nor am I anyway associated with urlhasbeenblocked. I have one VPS with this company, and I paid $40 for it. They aren't giving me anything. Yes, I know they should, but they haven't. shake head

What is this, you may ask? It is an online Linux computer that you have root access to, and can install and run practically anything. Read the TOS, 'cause that doesn't include P2P sharing, folding, bit coin mining, seti stuff, and anything else stupid like that, that might kill the performance for everyone else.

Anyways, like I said, you get root access to a Linux box, and when you screw that up, no problem, they give you a control panel that lets you reinstall a new OS in minutes. Pretty cool. With a small effort, you can even vnc into it with a full GUI.

Don't expect the world from this, you get more than you pay for. Think twice before you bet your business on this, although I think there are people that do.

Yeah, what clicq said...
Openvpn would be better, but something crappy is still better than nothing. I just want to make it difficult for someone to sniff my connection at an open unencrypted wifi hotspot. It's so much easier and quicker to get pptp going on both client and server, is it worth the extra hassle to get openvpn going just to make my hotspot connection sniff proof?

And no, I don't have the old wiki link. Sorry...
I setup openVPN-AS and it was easy as pie. Limit is two concurrent users but I found that the easiest if you only want to just use it for those unsecured wifi spots.

And it works on both iPads and android?

Both iPads and android have support for pptp built into the settings, nothing to install on the client. Which is good for the wifey and moms. How does openvpn-as work?

And how is it easier than the script I wrote? I just paste it in and it works.

Yes but when you run a forum people register and need to get that email to verify there account info. If nobody get's the email then your dead. Not sure how I would do that using a 3d party.
The forum software generally only needs to send mail. So you can configure a local mail client that can send mail directly (ie: sendmail) without all the external stuff or use a third party server. I've seen many forum software that supports it.

OpenVPN works very well on Android. Not sure about iPad as I don't use it personally. However, it would need to be rooted and the kernel will need to support 'tun'. If both of those are good to go, there is an OpenVPN Installer and OpenVPN Settings app that will get it running. The former installs the binary (openvpn) and the latter configures the tunnel.

Granted, OpenVPN is not as easy to setup as PPTP.

Can any one help me in getting Plex media server setup on this VPS? I have CentOS 6 on my VPS. I downloaded the latest RPM from the Plex site. After installing the plex RPM, I try to access "http://IP:34200/manage/index.html", I get the myPlex login. I login to myPlex account and I see the following error:
"This media server is unavailable to you. Please check that you have permission to access this media server." What am I missing? How can I get the control panel of Plex?

Below are the commands I executed.

[root@pqr ~]# rpm -ivh plexmediaserver-0.9.7.17.469-1f0b170.x86_64.rpm
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
1:plexmediaserver ########################################### [100%]

Note: To edit plex Library home settings edit /etc/sysconfig/PlexMediaServer
And remember if you run a firewall/iptables add a rule for that.

Read more here /usr/share/doc/plexmediaserver/README.Redhat

[root@pqr ~]# /etc/init.d/plexmediaserver start
Starting PlexMediaServer: [ OK ]
ln: creating symbolic link `/var/run/PlexMediaServer.pid': File exists

LMAO
And you, sir, are a master of the understatement!

5) you still need to set up a server
And don't you need to get the certs off the server onto the device?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have it more secure. But for the opportunity cost with time/frustration involved with openvpn, do i gain much? I'm just looking to keep the casual snooper from wifi sniffing me. And make it easy for family to use. Is pptp that bad?

I actually tried to get openvpn working on the ipad before I went with pptp. Which is why I went with pptp, turns out it's way easier. Paste some commands in, bam, done. If someone could explain why pptp is real bad for what I'm using it for, I might try openvpn again...

I haven't setup plex on my VPS, but a quick search pointed me to: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.p...ntry245534

Seems like you have to do some trickery if you're not on a private IP.

Or maybe you just need to log into myplex and see if there's a place to add an IP there?

Heh, yeah I didn't go through the entire process as I had to run out, but as I said it is a bit more difficult to get OpenVPN running. Setting up the server isn't too difficult. You just need to install the package, edit the server conf file, and start it up.

As you pointed out, the time/effort is really on the client side. Yes, you need to create a client certificate (on the server) and then copy that and a few other files over to the client, in addition to creating a client config file. Once you put all of those on your 'sdcard', you will point the OpenVPN Settings app (or another app if you so chose) to that client.conf file.

I actually run both openvpn and pptp on my home gateway. For most devices and remote servers, I use openvpn to link them. I've set it up enough times that it's very easy (for me) to get it working. For some clients that have openvpn issues, I've used pptp.

Just for the record, I didn't mean to come off insensitve or anything, I just don't know CentOS or RH very well. I've been debian-only for a long time. I hope you get it sorted.

FWIW, the two plex servers I have running at the Chicago location run *very* well, so once you get it going, I think you'll be pleased.

yes, i understand.i just learned that we need to publish the media server somehow (trusted LAN - VPN) to the server and it may show up. if I get it sorted, ill post it here.

Hi Everyone, how long did it take for your vps to be provisioned?
I am having a hard time geting mine up and running.
I paid for the server about 12 hours ago, and after 6 hours of the status at "Pending" with no server details showing in the urlhasbeenblocked Portal, I submitted a ticket.
I just checked and the ticket was closed with no change in the status, no emails ...nothing.
Kinda strange....
I just submitted another ticket so let's see what happens.
Just to be clear I initially got a series of emails confirming credit card payment , etc. then a confirmation email for the first support ticket and then nothing else, not even the support ticket I just submitted.

I guess I have a second question: Why would they close a support ticket without resolution?

Check your spam box?

What's the ticket response say when they closed it?

I checked SPAM folder already ...not that much of a noob. Smilie

That's the strange part: the ticket only shows my side of it, meaning no response, resolution or reply from them. Just that the ticket status was changed to "Closed"
Weird, right?
