Deal Details

urlhasbeenblocked is now offering a 2GB VPS for $40 per year, this time with 2 IPv4 addresses and now offer an additional location option (Atlanta)

UPDATE: The wiki went bye-bye, don't know why. Look at post 5 for most of what was in there.

UPDATE: I just found a code that seems to give you almost the same deal at $30, 2GBYR
More info from Kevin:
to clarify about the $30/yr deal. It is valid for the "Enterprise" plan listed here: http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html. It only includes 1x IP, and is only valid for our Chicago, Buffalo, and LA location (Not Atlanta). The $40/yr STEALOFADEAL offer is separate order links like I gave you earlier, and includes 2 IP addresses. It is also available in our new location Atlanta.

This is not technically a repost, because the other thread about this particular deal got deleted. The STEALOFADEAL offer actually costs $10 more than the previous deals, and it comes with 2 IP addresses.

2048MB (2GB) Dedicated Ram
50 GB Diskspace
2TB Monthly Bandwidth
100Mbps Port
2x IPv4 Address with STEALOFADEAL
1x IPv4 Address with 2GBYR code, but $10 less, but no Atlanta
SolusVM/OpenVZ
Instant Setup (most of the time)
Free Backups
3 or 4 Location Choices: Los Angeles, Chicago, Buffalo, (Atlanta on the $40 code)

$40/year with promo code "STEALOFADEAL" & 2 IP addresses
Order in Chicago, IL - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=160
Order in Buffalo, NY - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=161
Order in Los Angeles, CA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=162
Order in Atlanta, GA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=163

$30/yr deal. with 1 IP address and no Atlanta
http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html - Choose Enterprise, 1 year recurring

The promo code to use is STEALOFADEAL or 2GBYR- over $200+ in savings Just be sure to select the 12 month billing cycle when ordering then on the next page you will find the option to enter in the promo code. This price doesn't go up after the year is up either.

When signing up, use an easy password, and change it later. Some folks had trouble with complicated password during signup.

Disclaimer: I don't work for, nor am I anyway associated with urlhasbeenblocked. I have one VPS with this company, and I paid $40 for it. They aren't giving me anything. Yes, I know they should, but they haven't. shake head

What is this, you may ask? It is an online Linux computer that you have root access to, and can install and run practically anything. Read the TOS, 'cause that doesn't include P2P sharing, folding, bit coin mining, seti stuff, and anything else stupid like that, that might kill the performance for everyone else.

Anyways, like I said, you get root access to a Linux box, and when you screw that up, no problem, they give you a control panel that lets you reinstall a new OS in minutes. Pretty cool. With a small effort, you can even vnc into it with a full GUI.

Don't expect the world from this, you get more than you pay for. Think twice before you bet your business on this, although I think there are people that do.

Over2clock: question - did you change ssh ports, and try to allow the new ssh/tcp ports. I modded the sshd config file, and the rules look fine, but UFW wont let me connect with it enabled/up. Later, I found it was erroring out in the init.
I didn't change the SSH port, it's still the default 22. Can you post your ufw rules?

Interesting. I don't frequent either of those forums, so I'm not familiar with the back story, but yeah, it seems like CVPS owned LowEndTalk and made it seem to be a vendor neutral discussion site, and yet clearly had alterior motives. According to one post, they would read private messages from people who sold VPS services, and offer their services instead. Very shady if true.

When this thread first came up, I mentioned how it seemed to me that there was some shadiness here as well, with brand new user accounts vehemently defending CVPS all the time. I said something about it then, and many people thought I was insane for even thinking such a thing. Looks like it's their SOP.

LET is owned by CVPS. If you where on when the site got hacked, you could see that the entire CVPS team is admin, they ban anyone talking bad about CVPS, tons of fake accounts to post reviews about CVPS.

It's true, they also covered up their database hack by dismissing anything bad could happen with the information. All CVPS thread started on SD were created by CVPS and maintained to stay active and positive attitude towards CVPS.

I really dont care about this drama at all, if its stable and cheap I`m good. So far few issues with some minor downtime in between, but tolerable...

Chicago VPS
Good morning,

We are sending out an email notice to all clients to let you know that within the next 48 hours your VPS may be restarted and you may experience a couple minutes of downtime during this process. Most of you are aware that there is a new 0-day kernel exploit encompassing RHEL6 RedHat/CentOS machines. The majority of our VPS nodes are powered by CentOS 6 machines and as such, we are updating our kernels across all of our servers within the next 48 hours. The updated kernel will include a patch to this vulnerability.

As we run OpenVZ, the vulnerability does not put your VPS (or us) at risk of being compromised, the most that the exploit can do in our case is if a VPS container executes this exploit, it can cause the hypervisor to crash/reboot. We have applied a temporary patch earlier this week to help us become immune from any publicly available exploits related to this, and also to allow time for OpenVZ to release a new kernel release that includes the patch for this 0-day exploit, and now that it is released and tested to be stable in our testing environment, we are proceeding with upgrading all production servers.

Please keep in mind that everyone running a RHEL6 based machine is impacted by this vulnerability, and this issue is NOT isolated to urlhasbeenblocked. Should you have any questions or concerns, our support team is standing by. We appreciate your cooperation as we help ensure our users remain safe.

Thank you for choosing urlhasbeenblocked.

Warm Regards,

urlhasbeenblocked Team

How can we do a daily backup of the whole VPS? urlhasbeenblocked does an auto weekly backup. I just want to ensure that my VPS, if backed up, can be directly accessed and uploaded if my VPS gets in some trouble.

Any help to do a daily backup is appreciated.

It looks like you can do a "central backup" through the VPS Control Panel. After reading your post, I looked to see if it was possible and found that. I'm not sure how many you can make, how long they can last, how good it is, or if it would survive some disaster at CVPS, but it's definitely an option.

If you have sensitive or otherwise important files on your VPS, I would recommend doing your own offsite controlled backup of those files as well. You don't need to necessarily backup the entire system, only what matters. If they are fairly static, you could just create one manually. If they change frequently, you could setup an automatic rsync to keep an up to date backup as well.

Hi, where do you find that "central backup" option? I can't seem to locate it anywhere on the VPS control panel :/

I believe you need to put in a ticket to make that option availible.

For me, it's inside the VPS Control Panel, in the bottom 'Controls' section, and the 'General' tab.

I never requested it, nor put in a support ticket to get it, so I don't believe that is required. I never even noticed it (nor looked) until you asked if it was possible.
