urlhasbeenblocked is now offering a 2GB VPS for $40 per year, this time with 2 IPv4 addresses and now offer an additional location option (Atlanta)

UPDATE: The wiki went bye-bye, don't know why. Look at post 5 for most of what was in there.

UPDATE: I just found a code that seems to give you almost the same deal at $30, 2GBYR
More info from Kevin:
to clarify about the $30/yr deal. It is valid for the "Enterprise" plan listed here: http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html. It only includes 1x IP, and is only valid for our Chicago, Buffalo, and LA location (Not Atlanta). The $40/yr STEALOFADEAL offer is separate order links like I gave you earlier, and includes 2 IP addresses. It is also available in our new location Atlanta.

This is not technically a repost, because the other thread about this particular deal got deleted. The STEALOFADEAL offer actually costs $10 more than the previous deals, and it comes with 2 IP addresses.

2048MB (2GB) Dedicated Ram
50 GB Diskspace
2TB Monthly Bandwidth
100Mbps Port
2x IPv4 Address with STEALOFADEAL
1x IPv4 Address with 2GBYR code, but $10 less, but no Atlanta
SolusVM/OpenVZ
Instant Setup (most of the time)
Free Backups
3 or 4 Location Choices: Los Angeles, Chicago, Buffalo, (Atlanta on the $40 code)

$40/year with promo code "STEALOFADEAL" & 2 IP addresses
Order in Chicago, IL - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=160
Order in Buffalo, NY - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=161
Order in Los Angeles, CA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=162
Order in Atlanta, GA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=163

$30/yr deal. with 1 IP address and no Atlanta
http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html - Choose Enterprise, 1 year recurring

The promo code to use is STEALOFADEAL or 2GBYR- over $200+ in savings Just be sure to select the 12 month billing cycle when ordering then on the next page you will find the option to enter in the promo code. This price doesn't go up after the year is up either.

When signing up, use an easy password, and change it later. Some folks had trouble with complicated password during signup.

Disclaimer: I don't work for, nor am I anyway associated with urlhasbeenblocked. I have one VPS with this company, and I paid $40 for it. They aren't giving me anything. Yes, I know they should, but they haven't. shake head

What is this, you may ask? It is an online Linux computer that you have root access to, and can install and run practically anything. Read the TOS, 'cause that doesn't include P2P sharing, folding, bit coin mining, seti stuff, and anything else stupid like that, that might kill the performance for everyone else.

Anyways, like I said, you get root access to a Linux box, and when you screw that up, no problem, they give you a control panel that lets you reinstall a new OS in minutes. Pretty cool. With a small effort, you can even vnc into it with a full GUI.

Don't expect the world from this, you get more than you pay for. Think twice before you bet your business on this, although I think there are people that do.

If you're on osx:

windows:
* http://sourceforge.net/projects/xming/
you can then basically run any GUI based application through ssh on your local box in an environment you're already comfortable with. it gives you the best of both worlds... being in a GUI you know and running applications as if you're on the remote server. the cool thing about doing this is you're not trying to run an intense 1024x768 window @ 16/32bit color with the latency from their location to yours... while minor (30ms-70ms) its still noticable... it's easier to use the above methods... once you get it running it's pretty awesome and should fit 99% of what people need to do if they're buying a $40/y option. this should also make applications pretty snappy since you're only using resources required for individual applications vs. running a full blow kde/gnome/etc environment.

Use SSH or SFTP.
I do not know where this configuration file for File Manager is located or how to get to it over SSH.
I did do some package installs and security changes over SSH. Including using nano but finding and editing this has me stumped.

Sorry just learning SSH.

Well, that was the feeling I got too...but....the only way to get DNS entries to actually resolve is by using the SolusVM DNS.

I registered a hostname with godaddy (part of setting up a private nameserver from what I understand) ns1.domain.tld and point it to both my IPs.

Once that approves, I'll point the nameservers entries at my registrar at it and see how that goes.
Indeed. At least with Godaddy, you need to register nameservers for the domain before you can set them as the domain's nameservers. That process takes about 5 minutes total. Once you set it to use those nameservers as your domain's nameservers, it will take anywhere from 15 minutes to 48 hours for everywhere else on the 'net to update their records in order to be able to resolve properly as well.

I believe the zPanel 1-click installed does indeed install and setup DNS (probably bind). Once your nameservers have propagated, everything else should be working from there assuming you have zPanel configured properly.

While you're waiting, you can check that your vps has an operational dns server from a number of sites. A quick Google search turned up:
http://www.kloth.net/services/dig.php

Put in your vps ip address in the server field and a sub domain you've got setup in zpanel as the domain, and see what you get. It should resolve to an ip address, I think.

If I understand what I'm reading, I think zpanel sets up a dns server when you install it, so I think all you need to do is point your registrar to your VPS... Though I haven't tried it myself.
I believe zPanel does that - yes. Same with other control panels such as Kloxo and Virtualmin.

To register your own nameservers you'll need to register "child nameservers" (or referred to as "host summary" in Godaddy) to have ns1 and ns2 point to your VPS IP.

I got my approvals. Pointed my domain to my nameservers ns1 and ns2.

Deleted all entries in CVPS DNS Manager

created a test.domain.tld

success!

zpanel is managing my DNS for me now. Yay. Getting somewhere. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, reps to those that chimed in.

I realize this update is overdue, but for those following the previous thread, you would know a few concerns were raised regarding the passwords clients signed up with being sent via email.

I made a promise in the previous thread that this would be changed, and this update is just to let you guys know that our head developer has now implemented a solution for this! woot

If you visit the order form, you will no longer see the option to input a root password. Our developer has modified our system to randomly generate a root password for the customer upon every sign up. The root password will be randomly generated by our system and emailed to the customer.

From there on, the customer can log in to his/her services and change the password if he/she desires.

This rectify & addresses 2 problems that were brought up:
1.) The password the client signed up with being sent via email
2.) The advanced symbol problem which caused it to break the automatic setup process (as the OP mentioned in the original post of this thread)

Thank you to Phonic and others who have mentioned this - we definitely are listening. We may not be perfect but we always do our best and implement useful suggestions accordingly. There's always room for improvement and we always have an open ear on how we can improve our service to our valued customers.

So I ordered this previously to setup a Minecraft server. and since there was 2 ips, I was wondering if I would be able to setup 2 different servers on the same machine, each using a different ip. If not, i was thinking of purchashing a second vps anyways since this seems to still be available.

With the $40 deal, you get 1 VPS that has 2 IP pointed to it. You cannot install for example Ubuntu for 1 IP and Debian on the other IP.

I think he meant two minecraft servers.

It should be technically possible (assuming the minecraft server can bind to a specific IP/interface), but I don't know if you'd get acceptable performance with two running simultaneously. Though I guess if you only have a couple of users it might be alright...

Looks like Minecraft server has the following setting in server.properties:

server-ip: Set this if you want the server to bind to a particular IP.

So running a Minecraft server on each IP with the default port should not be a problem.

Yes, you'll be able to run multiple Minecraft server instances under different IPs.
