urlhasbeenblocked is now offering a 2GB VPS for $40 per year, this time with 2 IPv4 addresses and now offer an additional location option (Atlanta)

UPDATE: The wiki went bye-bye, don't know why. Look at post 5 for most of what was in there.

UPDATE: I just found a code that seems to give you almost the same deal at $30, 2GBYR
More info from Kevin:
to clarify about the $30/yr deal. It is valid for the "Enterprise" plan listed here: http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html. It only includes 1x IP, and is only valid for our Chicago, Buffalo, and LA location (Not Atlanta). The $40/yr STEALOFADEAL offer is separate order links like I gave you earlier, and includes 2 IP addresses. It is also available in our new location Atlanta.

This is not technically a repost, because the other thread about this particular deal got deleted. The STEALOFADEAL offer actually costs $10 more than the previous deals, and it comes with 2 IP addresses.

2048MB (2GB) Dedicated Ram
50 GB Diskspace
2TB Monthly Bandwidth
100Mbps Port
2x IPv4 Address with STEALOFADEAL
1x IPv4 Address with 2GBYR code, but $10 less, but no Atlanta
SolusVM/OpenVZ
Instant Setup (most of the time)
Free Backups
3 or 4 Location Choices: Los Angeles, Chicago, Buffalo, (Atlanta on the $40 code)

$40/year with promo code "STEALOFADEAL" & 2 IP addresses
Order in Chicago, IL - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=160
Order in Buffalo, NY - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=161
Order in Los Angeles, CA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=162
Order in Atlanta, GA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=163

$30/yr deal. with 1 IP address and no Atlanta
http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html - Choose Enterprise, 1 year recurring

The promo code to use is STEALOFADEAL or 2GBYR- over $200+ in savings Just be sure to select the 12 month billing cycle when ordering then on the next page you will find the option to enter in the promo code. This price doesn't go up after the year is up either.

When signing up, use an easy password, and change it later. Some folks had trouble with complicated password during signup.

Disclaimer: I don't work for, nor am I anyway associated with urlhasbeenblocked. I have one VPS with this company, and I paid $40 for it. They aren't giving me anything. Yes, I know they should, but they haven't. shake head

What is this, you may ask? It is an online Linux computer that you have root access to, and can install and run practically anything. Read the TOS, 'cause that doesn't include P2P sharing, folding, bit coin mining, seti stuff, and anything else stupid like that, that might kill the performance for everyone else.

Anyways, like I said, you get root access to a Linux box, and when you screw that up, no problem, they give you a control panel that lets you reinstall a new OS in minutes. Pretty cool. With a small effort, you can even vnc into it with a full GUI.

Don't expect the world from this, you get more than you pay for. Think twice before you bet your business on this, although I think there are people that do.

If you're on osx:
* http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/
windows:
* http://sourceforge.net/projects/xming/
you can then basically run any GUI based application through ssh on your local box in an environment you're already comfortable with. it gives you the best of both worlds... being in a GUI you know and running applications as if you're on the remote server. the cool thing about doing this is you're not trying to run an intense 1024x768 window @ 16/32bit color with the latency from their location to yours... while minor (30ms-70ms) its still noticable... it's easier to use the above methods... once you get it running it's pretty awesome and should fit 99% of what people need to do if they're buying a $40/y option. this should also make applications pretty snappy since you're only using resources required for individual applications vs. running a full blow kde/gnome/etc environment.

Kevin (or anyone that might know) - is reverse DNS supported at all, and if so how do we go about setting it up? I did a lookup on my IP addresses, and both are listed with colocrossing.com.

Anyone know how to install PPTP on the 2nd ip address? I tried all the guides but it just defaults my public IP address as the server IP address.

Not to be a smartness, but why would you want to do this? Is there any advantage?

I offer free VPN service and separating protocols allows me to log less and still be able to handle any abuse complaints. OpenVPN on 1 ip address and PPTP on the other.

Guess I was really tired last night because I forgot to add the 2nd IP address to the server.

Mostly for people to bypass internet restrictions in their country. I've been offering free Web Proxies since 2006 and I'm currently in the process of setting up a free PPTP VPN service, maybe OpenVPN too.

I'm currently still working out the quirks in the setup, will be probably end of the month before I move to a public launch. If you would like to test a PPTP account on a urlhasbeenblocked (LA) let me know.

I'm not sure about PPTP (though I have to assume there is a way to specify a single interface). But in any case, I know for a fact that OpenVPN does support binding to only one interface, so you could use that to bind it to the second interface only.

Another option would be to have both services listen on both interfaces, but use iptables or some other firewall to block access to the ports you don't want exposed. This way you can still provide PPTP on one and OpenVPN on the other.

Actually, I'm paying around $80/month for the vpn server. The urlhasbeenblocked is just a test server. The server is supported through donations and advertisement on the main site/proxy websites. It doesn't really bring in any money, just break even

I forgot to add the IP address to the VPS. I routed the IP address using nat.

I tried to send Kevin a pm a couple of time but no response so I will ask here.

I want to set up a Joomla / Moodle site for distance language learning. Could I use this hosting for that purpose and would it be a good solution?
I will be going through all my PM's today. Yes, a VPS is perfect for hosting websites, we can install a free control panel such as Kloxo for you which makes it easy to get a site up and going on a VPS.

Yes, we support rDNS, just open a ticket to support with what you want the rDNS set to and we will have it done for you pronto Smilie

Thanks,

Kevin

Smilie Thanks for the reply. Someone had mentioned that previously and I had actually submitted a ticket a few hours before you replied.

FWIW (for everybody else), my ticket was responded to within about 10 minutes and the request was completed within 15. If I recall, I submitted it about 5:30pm CDT too, so I wasn't really expecting anyone to look at it until the following day.

I'm really tempted to pick up a second VPS for colo purposes now, but I'd prefer the $30 deal. Unfortunately, not having that deal available in Atlanta kinda sucks, since that's where I'd prefer it (my primary is in Chicago, so Atlanta would be a more natural 'regional' colo for me). I know it's $10, but I don't need the second IP for it.

I've had two people join my minecraft server but often experience lag, any settings you did that could help improve performance.

I bought one and setup a Minecraft server for my kids. It's nice for them to have one to play on with just their friends. No issues here.
