urlhasbeenblocked is now offering a 2GB VPS for $40 per year, this time with 2 IPv4 addresses and now offer an additional location option (Atlanta)

UPDATE: The wiki went bye-bye, don't know why. Look at post 5 for most of what was in there.

UPDATE: I just found a code that seems to give you almost the same deal at $30, 2GBYR
More info from Kevin:
to clarify about the $30/yr deal. It is valid for the "Enterprise" plan listed here: http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html. It only includes 1x IP, and is only valid for our Chicago, Buffalo, and LA location (Not Atlanta). The $40/yr STEALOFADEAL offer is separate order links like I gave you earlier, and includes 2 IP addresses. It is also available in our new location Atlanta.

This is not technically a repost, because the other thread about this particular deal got deleted. The STEALOFADEAL offer actually costs $10 more than the previous deals, and it comes with 2 IP addresses.

2048MB (2GB) Dedicated Ram
50 GB Diskspace
2TB Monthly Bandwidth
100Mbps Port
2x IPv4 Address with STEALOFADEAL
1x IPv4 Address with 2GBYR code, but $10 less, but no Atlanta
SolusVM/OpenVZ
Instant Setup (most of the time)
Free Backups
3 or 4 Location Choices: Los Angeles, Chicago, Buffalo, (Atlanta on the $40 code)

$40/year with promo code "STEALOFADEAL" & 2 IP addresses
Order in Chicago, IL - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=160
Order in Buffalo, NY - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=161
Order in Los Angeles, CA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=162
Order in Atlanta, GA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=163

$30/yr deal. with 1 IP address and no Atlanta
http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html - Choose Enterprise, 1 year recurring

The promo code to use is STEALOFADEAL or 2GBYR- over $200+ in savings Just be sure to select the 12 month billing cycle when ordering then on the next page you will find the option to enter in the promo code. This price doesn't go up after the year is up either.

When signing up, use an easy password, and change it later. Some folks had trouble with complicated password during signup.

Disclaimer: I don't work for, nor am I anyway associated with urlhasbeenblocked. I have one VPS with this company, and I paid $40 for it. They aren't giving me anything. Yes, I know they should, but they haven't. shake head

What is this, you may ask? It is an online Linux computer that you have root access to, and can install and run practically anything. Read the TOS, 'cause that doesn't include P2P sharing, folding, bit coin mining, seti stuff, and anything else stupid like that, that might kill the performance for everyone else.

Anyways, like I said, you get root access to a Linux box, and when you screw that up, no problem, they give you a control panel that lets you reinstall a new OS in minutes. Pretty cool. With a small effort, you can even vnc into it with a full GUI.

Don't expect the world from this, you get more than you pay for. Think twice before you bet your business on this, although I think there are people that do.

If you're on osx:
* http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/
windows:
* http://sourceforge.net/projects/xming/
you can then basically run any GUI based application through ssh on your local box in an environment you're already comfortable with. it gives you the best of both worlds... being in a GUI you know and running applications as if you're on the remote server. the cool thing about doing this is you're not trying to run an intense 1024x768 window @ 16/32bit color with the latency from their location to yours... while minor (30ms-70ms) its still noticable... it's easier to use the above methods... once you get it running it's pretty awesome and should fit 99% of what people need to do if they're buying a $40/y option. this should also make applications pretty snappy since you're only using resources required for individual applications vs. running a full blow kde/gnome/etc environment.

It could be the location of your VPS.

Also, anyone here know if you have 2 IP addresses, how can you force Firefox to use 1 IP address and another internet browser (Chrome for example) to use the 2nd IP address. So that when you visit websites, they will see requests coming from 2 separate IP addresses?

Great question. The only thing I can think of is, set up a VPN to go off the 2nd address. While you are on VPN, you should be able to use the browser on the computer you are vpn'ed from to browse from the 2nd address, and then vnc to the vps to run that browser, which should default to going out the 1st address.

Of course that's probably not what you wanted, and I'm just guessing it would even work...shake head

Thanks though. I use VNC to connect to my VPS. From there I want to browse via 2 IP addresses rather than go through VPN.

Are you talking about from your household? The ip address being broadcast out is handle by your router, but most if not all cheap home routers do not handle multiple ip addresses. You could set up on the router to allow NAT to use a certain ip address from a specific nic card mac address.

Oh now that I see what you mean, setup your secondary ip address to act as a private proxy. Then use in your browser proxy settings.

Another wild untested idea shake head, see if there is a proxy server you can install that you can point to use the 2nd ip, and have only one of the browsers go through it.

Great, I see someone beat me to that answer. So either great minds think alike, or we're both smoking the same brand of crack... nod

I just set it up using Craftbukkit and added a startup script to use 1.5gb ram. My kids get on (3) and a few of their friends and no complaints yet.

So you can't log into a system like this running windows? Wouldn't mind running a few ebay stealth accounts for $40 a year with cable speed and a different IP... are the ip's shared? or is it static?

You can run windows on your laptop and connect it to the VPS (this runs Linux mostly all versions)

IPs are unique to you and are static.

Good God - I've tried everything to get PPTP working. I can't seem get past the verifying username/password screen.

I am using ufw, but nothing changes with ufw disabled. PPP is enabled in CPanel. Any ideas? Tried on my Android phone and same results.

Great Support, although I am still having problems with the incorrect OS being installed. No matter what I chose it is still on centos 5.8

How does it run? How does it compare to getting hosting from a company such as www.gameservers.com other than the easy to use control panels? Is there a big difference? Do you have a tutorial on how you set it up somewhere?

Thanks.

Since i don't know what you've already done, the only sure thing i can say is, Go to the control panel, reinstall with Ubuntu 12.04, run my guide linked on post 5. I've reinstalled several times, and it's always worked for me. I have another guide I haven't posted yet, designed to get pptp, vnc, gnome, webmin, iptables, and fail2ban set up in 10 minutes on a fresh Ubuntu install. If you want to be a guinea pig, I'll post it so you can try it.
