urlhasbeenblocked is now offering a 2GB VPS for $40 per year, this time with 2 IPv4 addresses and now offer an additional location option (Atlanta)

UPDATE: The wiki went bye-bye, don't know why. Look at post 5 for most of what was in there.

UPDATE: I just found a code that seems to give you almost the same deal at $30, 2GBYR
More info from Kevin:
to clarify about the $30/yr deal. It is valid for the "Enterprise" plan listed here: http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html. It only includes 1x IP, and is only valid for our Chicago, Buffalo, and LA location (Not Atlanta). The $40/yr STEALOFADEAL offer is separate order links like I gave you earlier, and includes 2 IP addresses. It is also available in our new location Atlanta.

This is not technically a repost, because the other thread about this particular deal got deleted. The STEALOFADEAL offer actually costs $10 more than the previous deals, and it comes with 2 IP addresses.

2048MB (2GB) Dedicated Ram
50 GB Diskspace
2TB Monthly Bandwidth
100Mbps Port
2x IPv4 Address with STEALOFADEAL
1x IPv4 Address with 2GBYR code, but $10 less, but no Atlanta
SolusVM/OpenVZ
Instant Setup (most of the time)
Free Backups
3 or 4 Location Choices: Los Angeles, Chicago, Buffalo, (Atlanta on the $40 code)

$40/year with promo code "STEALOFADEAL" & 2 IP addresses
Order in Chicago, IL - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=160
Order in Buffalo, NY - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=161
Order in Los Angeles, CA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=162
Order in Atlanta, GA - https://billing.chicagovps.net/ca...dd&pid=163

$30/yr deal. with 1 IP address and no Atlanta
http://urlhasbeenblocked.net/openvz.html - Choose Enterprise, 1 year recurring

The promo code to use is STEALOFADEAL or 2GBYR- over $200+ in savings Just be sure to select the 12 month billing cycle when ordering then on the next page you will find the option to enter in the promo code. This price doesn't go up after the year is up either.

When signing up, use an easy password, and change it later. Some folks had trouble with complicated password during signup.

Disclaimer: I don't work for, nor am I anyway associated with urlhasbeenblocked. I have one VPS with this company, and I paid $40 for it. They aren't giving me anything. Yes, I know they should, but they haven't. shake head

What is this, you may ask? It is an online Linux computer that you have root access to, and can install and run practically anything. Read the TOS, 'cause that doesn't include P2P sharing, folding, bit coin mining, seti stuff, and anything else stupid like that, that might kill the performance for everyone else.

Anyways, like I said, you get root access to a Linux box, and when you screw that up, no problem, they give you a control panel that lets you reinstall a new OS in minutes. Pretty cool. With a small effort, you can even vnc into it with a full GUI.

Don't expect the world from this, you get more than you pay for. Think twice before you bet your business on this, although I think there are people that do.

If you're on osx:
* http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/
windows:
* http://sourceforge.net/projects/xming/
you can then basically run any GUI based application through ssh on your local box in an environment you're already comfortable with. it gives you the best of both worlds... being in a GUI you know and running applications as if you're on the remote server. the cool thing about doing this is you're not trying to run an intense 1024x768 window @ 16/32bit color with the latency from their location to yours... while minor (30ms-70ms) its still noticable... it's easier to use the above methods... once you get it running it's pretty awesome and should fit 99% of what people need to do if they're buying a $40/y option. this should also make applications pretty snappy since you're only using resources required for individual applications vs. running a full blow kde/gnome/etc environment.

My uptime has averaged out to 89% over the last month, since the few days downtime fiasco. Albeit, I haven't been using it a lot just for that reason, I sent a ticket and requested that I be moved to another city/server.

For those complaining about non-responsiveness, remember that system load (ie: top or uptime) only measures CPU load and how long the system has to wait for that resource if it's otherwise busy. If there are I/O delays (which is a frequent issue on shared systems), it can cause a serious delay in your server being able to deliver content, etc.

Eh appears they gotbannedon leb for a week or so for the same problem. Anyways an update on my VPS,they moved me several times to different nodes with each one being progressively worst. My box barely uses any resources too..

Oh, we still think you're crazy... Wink

Actually, it's probably because all the noobs only check the Hotdeals forum, it's been slow in here since they put the thread in the Deal Talk forum. I thought this forum was for past deals, not deals still ongoing.

^^^ This.

I've been around SD for a while, but it took me a couple years before I realized threads "disappeared" over to Deal Talk. They don't even show up in search if you use the local search dropdown in Hot Deals, so most people don't have a clue.

I think I'll be picking up a second one of these guys tonight.

Here's a hint too - if any of you are running BIND, make sure you set "recursion: off" in your named.conf file (unless you absolutely know what you're doing with it). If your server has been up for a while, you'll probably also want to add "category security { null; }; to your logging section too, unless you want your log file to blow up overnight.

True, I am kind of crazy, but just not about that Stick Out Tongue.

And yes, Deal Talk is for dead threads, but also for ones the Mods wish to make dead...

Easy solution:
1) Auto subscribe to threads on post.
2) Use http://slickdeals.net/forums/subscription.php to check for replies to threads you are active in.

I mainly use two search pages on Slickdeals. My Subscribed Threads and "New Posts". This way I always see responses to threads I posted in, regardless of what forum it's moved to, and to see new/active posts in all forums. I almost never go to Hot Deals, etc. directly.

With 2 VPS's it's been a great way to get around view limitations at places like the NY Times.

Here's an interesting one - they offer a 256MB ram / 10GB storage / 100GB xfer Atlanta node for $1/month [urlhasbeenblocked.net].

Can't speak for the other new folks who signed up for SD specifically because of this deal, but I know that I for one just haven't had much else to talk about in this particular thread regarding the deal. I've found my way to the free magazine section though and have signed up for a dozen Stick Out Tongue

Had issues with the IP being blocked by several email providers, but finally got that all straightened out. Server uptime has been very good and my site is twice as fast as it was on what I considered to be a fairly decent shared host. I've had a few seconds of downtime 3 or 4 times that I've noticed, but otherwise it's been humming along quite nicely. My support emails were answered relatively quickly - the last one about changing the 2nd IP address's rdns got responded to in about 2 minutes.

Having 0 knowledge of linux, it took some time to get everything set up, but overall I think it's been a great deal.

I picked up a second $40 package yesterday for colo/backup purposes, to run a secondary nameserver, to put mono on so I can run a Terraria server for my kids, use as a VPN endpoint, asterisk box, and all around sandbox while the other box is more or less used for actual hosting purposes.
