No go in the DFW area....Maybe better luck going in the store, but usually when this happens it means only the display is left...

Is this thing worthy? Is the HP with the bigger screen a better computer, or think they are just about the same thing overall? Planning to buy for someone who surfs, uses Office, and that' s about it so i'm guessing its fine if they can get over the Windows 8 hump.
Anyone know if either of these can be downgraded to Windows 7? Drivers exist or nope? |

Either would suffice for internet, email, office (LibreOffice is a free alternative to MS Office too btw.) This one apparently won't downgrade to Win7 (at least well anyway) due to Toshiba not having drivers that work with Win7 for it. That's coming from somebody else in this thread though. Normally, drivers can be pretty independent though (for instance, Intel drivers from their site for graphics, network drivers from Realtek or whoever made the card, sound drivers for whoever made the sound card.) Not too many AFAIK are Toshiba specific save for maybe the function keys and things like that. I'd check into it though further if it really is a big deal. If not, just buy StartIsBack or Start8 for 5 bucks and never see Metro again on Win8 (though honestly, my experience with Win8 has convinced me that I will always downgrade to 7 or go full Linux.) Hope that helped. I'm seeing if my brother can pick me up one of these locally. Seems like a decent deal in any case. |

Thanks, jevans30253, this was the best price I've ever seen for a computer with specs good enough to recommend to a friend.
I reserved the last one in town for my friend! Jevans30253, you've helped my friend a lot. She is a very sweet lady who has serious cancer, so this little bit of good news for her was most welcome. |

I think Toshiba's build quality is similar to HP's, but I'd give the edge to HP because, like Dell, they put their service manuals on-line, and Toshiba won't let anyone have a service manual except factory-authorized service centers.
For some reason, the American manufacturers generally put their service manuals on-line, but the Asian manufacturers don't (except for some Lenovos). That makes the Dell and HP laptops better choices, if specs and price are similar to laptops from Asian companies. (But if the Toshiba is $100 cheaper, I'd go with the Toshiba.) |

So this laptop is $249.99 instore, but none of the stores around me have it in stock. However, on BB.com site the laptop is selling for $369.99 and you can order for instore pickup in like 7-10 days.
So can we go to the store and have them order one for us at the instore price from the wherehouse or not? When we give them the SKU# it will show up as the $249.99 price in their system, but it will indicate none in stock. At that time can we order for store pickup at the the $250 price or not? |
