I want to pull the trigger but I think I would rather have the computer new with 3rd Gen i3 for $100 more.

seems like I'll stick with my asus 14" pentium order from 2 days ago. This one costs $100 more and 50% slower than the pentium B970.

Copied from an old S200E thread but still applies here:

RAM: RAM IS SOLDERED ON (4GB)

HELPFUL LINKS.
Touchpad Driver. The Asus Touchwiz touchpad driver for this laptop is terrible. Here is the Samsung Series 5 driver: https://mega.co.nz/#!KANTGYQQ!McL...WXBijarmGs

Wi-Fi Upgrades Many are suggesting replacing the WiFi card with a Bluetooth & Dual Band Intel 6235AN.HMWWB: http://www.amazon.com/Intel-6235A...B007QXLIWI

The above Intel Bluetooth driver V2.6.1211.0294 for all Win OSs dated 2/20/2013 is here (along with other BT drivers):
http://support.asus.com/Download....t=27&os=30

The battery of this notebook is: ASUS Li-Polymer battery pack C21-X202. It is 7.4v, 5136mAh, 38Wh. It has Korean cells.

BIOS The latest BIOS is 208 (listed for the X202E). Can download off the Asus website: http://support.asus.com/download....edid=n%2fa

SPECIAL CONFIGURATIONS.
Install OSX Mountain Lion How to install OSX on this laptop [live.com]
*Need to replace wifi card with ATHEROS AR5B195 from eBay
*USB 3.0 not working
* Touch is in development
*Everything else is stable!

Here'a a review on the nearly identical S200E: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Revi...787.0.html

ASUS changes the model number depending on who is selling it (Best Buy, Staples, etc.)

It cannot. It's soldered onto the board.

damn. That might be a deal killer.... I hate having to run windows taskmanager to kill off background apps....

I honestly haven't noticed and I use it all day, mostly Office 2013, Chrome and Evernote.

The i3 is a ULV 2nd gen sandy bridge, the pentium is a full voltage pentium 3rd gen.

I checked the benchmarks here http://www.notebookcheck.net/Inte...494.0.html

This particular i3 is slower than the B970 which is approx. 25% faster.

Don't worry I've had 4gb on my laptop and running firefox with 10 tabs open, doesn't seem to slow down yet.

I've never owned anything less than 8GB except my Macbook Air with 4GB... Then again, I only use my Air for remote access at school.... I don't know how well this will run some of my apps...

Just stop them from even starting. You can go into "msconfig" and select what processes you want to be enabled during startup.

To access msconfig: press the windows button on your keyboard and type msconfig.

Beware: You're responsible for the modifications you make in msconfig.

Not applications on startup, but the ones I open and just close that still run in the background.

2nd gen i3
I get 5 hours of battery life on my nearly identical S200E

actual cons:

* built in WiFi NIC kind of sucks, wouldn't connect to my work EAP network, but you can replace it with this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007QXLIWI
* No SSD, but you can slap in a Samsung 7mm SSD for ~$100 for the 128 GB
* RAM is not upgradable, but Windows 8 runs perfectly fine with 4 GB
I researched the wireless card some more because I would want to replace mine but this model (Q200e) only has one antenna so it cant use bluetooth or dual band. the x202 has 2 antennas so can use the that specific card to its full potential
