Two words for picking the sweetest pineapples- BIG EYES. The bigger, the better, and if you compare, there are definitely some with bigger eyes and they always taste better!

I got this last Christmas. It was fun to use the first time, but made an aweful juicy mess. The second time I used better technique and the results were good. The third time, even better. Cleaning up is easy if you have a dishwasher and I don't think there is that much waste.
It does not cut the edges as well as a knife would, but the result is a (rough) round cut just like the canned pineapples and that is more exciting than wedges. |

This (for the most part) is how I have cut up 100's of pineapples. With a chefs knife of course, but good advice on the serrated knife.
![]() I think I do most of the same steps as you at least for the peeling part. (Forgive me if I just misread the rest) After that when it is stood up you can clearly see the core, then I cut straight down the core twice crossways so the whole pineapple it is quartered. Then I keep each quarter stood up and take out the remaining "V" of the core on each quarter section (just takes a quick swipe down on each quartered piece). Then all I do is lay them down on the cutting board and cut them to size. I prefer less waste and it is a fast process. I think most people that buy these items just don't like working with knives (or don't have nice knives) and don't have a good sized cutting board. To each there own, but it is worth investing in a large cutting board, that will cut down on a lot of the perceived mess.

how to cut a pineapple w/o wasting half of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVfFvPUKyHE |

This is the method right here. TWIST off the top, do not cut the top and bottom of the fruit off, there is no need to do that. Quarter the fruit vertically...after that, removing the core and the peel / skin is easy and you're left with very little waste, it's like cutting wedges of cantaloupe that are a bit more firm (sharp knife and some knife competence a plus). Where was the U.N. When 8000 rockets rained down on Israel? The UN is useless.
Warned you not to vote for Obama. Now we all pay for this for generations to come. SO WHATS IT UPTO NOW LIKE 13 Trillion OBAMA HAS SPENT? What country in their right mind would still lend us money after it took this big mess to agree on a new debt limit. If the government ran the desert . in two years there would be shortage of sand ![]() http://confederateyankee.mu.nu/ar...283166.php |

![]() Seriously though, I am not sure what troubled you w/using one of these, as I find the corer V E R Y easy to use and to clean. A simple rinsing-off is all you need? ![]() So aside from tales/rumors of crooked cores, you should be able to successfully use such a device as this to effectively & efficiently remove the core of any store bought pineapple throughout the continental US w/o any issues or frustration.
While living abroad there just a short drive from the vast pineapple fields that stretched on for miles, I absolutely loved being able to use one of these pineapple core removers. Mine was just like the one on sale, except that it was made of hard plastic. Its handle also was removable for dishwasher use.Now here is something you absolutely CAN NOT do if you use the knife-method and cut up your golden creation as above: 1. Cut/remove top of pineapple. 2. Use pineapple corer to remove core, stopping at an estimated 1.0 - 1.5 inches from bottom. 3. Remove core contents and enjoy. Save some for step #6. 4. Place pineapple shell in freezer until frozen solid. 5. Remove pineapple shell from freezer and fill with vanilla ice cream or substitute. 6. Top ice cream w/pineapple sauce creation, whipped cream, and a cherry. 7. Use spoon to scrape at frozen pineapple sidewalls of your masterpiece dessert. It is also possible to use the pineapple shell in this fashion to make some wonderful pina coladas. Have fun and experiment.

The only way to go is OXO Good Grips Ratcheting Pineapple Slicer.
It's $9.99 white plastic [amazon.com] or $19.99 stainless steel [amazon.com] version. A good example of utility overriding money savings. If I'm bothering to use a tool other than a knife it must be easier & quicker to use. Ratcheting slicer = 2-3 minutes depending on the user. A quick and easy rinse and
