bought one the last time they had this deal...camera couldn't detect IP ... had to return...anyone else have the same issue.

And is it just me or their software seems really primitive?

You can buy their PC software, Blue IRIS and have your computer on 24/7. I use a synology nas 212j and it has much better built-in surveillance and leaves a smaller footprint and power usage than your normal pc can. But to be honest, I would not buy their software because the camera isn't great in PQ unless you move it 720p..but I have not even research that yet..

Why would wireless N even matter for this camera? I stream 720p all day on G. I've done 1080p over G without problems as well.

This would be fine for monitoring-security, But for security applications where you're looking to review video after the fact, to look for identifying details, faces, license plates, etc - I would definitely get a much more serious camera that does higher resolution video.

I've looked into those, and they're much more expensive, however. Like this:

It doesn't really matter, but the FOSCAM hardware will determine if you can get the MOST UP-TO-DATE firmware. If you got only b/g then you got OLDER hardware even though the foscam is the same model FI8910. Once you update to the newer firmware the password isn't seen in clear text but with ******.

I use one of this in our bird nesting box. There is a bird there now and has laid three eggs. I am feeding the signal to justin.tv so I only use one channel of outgoing bandwidth. Getting the stream to the internet is as easy as a port forward, but getting the stream from the cam to justin.tv isn't exactly straight-forward with these MJPEG cameras. Took a lot of tinkering to figure out the proper way to transcode.
