I use a Play SEGA Saturn Pad I bought online for all of $8 shipped. it is essentially a Sega Saturn (version 2) controller in with a USB connection. Sure, every part of it is the wrong color, but it really adds to the feel of playing these games. All that old muscle memory from playing these back in the day actually improves my scoring. The pad is high quality too.

Anyone else had problems getting the sega packs to activate on steam....maybe my steam client is just being dumb...

Yeah, thanks. I noticed it came back up and ordered about an hour ago. Hopefully the games play as nicely as they did on the Genesis. I didn't see any reviews mentioning that comparison, so I guess I'll have to grab a cartridge or two of games I like for a comparison.

I bought this during a Christmas deal - it doesn't clog up your Steam menu, it's just listed "Sega Genesis & Mega Drive Classics" which launches a menu to select the game you want to play. Another nice thing is that it's DRM free: after installation you just copy the installed folder onto your travel laptop for example and it will run w/o Steam or internet connection.

People have been talking about Phantasy Star - PS2 was really good for its time - excellent music, good graphics, good story. But it also has the bad things of early RPGs: too many random encounters, too much grinding, overly complicated mazes (the original cartridge included a full length strategy guide in the case which helped alot). PS3 is conisdered the black sheep of the series - I didn't care for it all and quit playing early on. It does have a cool theme song though. PS4 is the game I'd recommend for beginners - keeps or improves the good from PS2, gets rid of the bad. The story has some important ties to Phantasy Star 1 which is not available for sale to my knowledge (there was a Playstation 2 remake of PS1 in Japan and there's supposed to be a fan made translation on the web).

I highly recommend the Shining Force games. You can start with Shining Force 2 as it's better in just about every way and the previous story isn't much tied in.

Zelda fans should check out Landstalker. (and if you ever played Alundra on Playstation, this game is basically the predecessor).

Absolutely listen the sound test in Streets of Rage 1 and 2 - some of the best music of the 16-bit era right there. Sword of Vermillion also has great music - there was a sound test but I think it required entering a code or something.

I wish I could get these to run an android tablet too...some of the more turn based games would work well PhantasyStar III (not turn based except in combat and all the encounters are random anyway), God I LOVED that game. now I can finally play PS4 too.

Buy this pack and then don't feel guilty when you download the roms. The roms run fine with several different android emulators. I'm playing through Shining Force right now on my droid.

Are any of these kid friendly split screen/coop? Have only played the Sonic Racing series.
