Looks like these only applies to south east state. No this deal on California.


The ads has $0.89 for manure and 3 for $10 Mulch.

If termites are a concern, why would you put any mulch down near your house at all? Free chippings or fancy red dyed chips purchased at HD, it's still wood and it could still attract termites. And that wouldn't be my first concern. Wood chip mulch gets hot as it decomposes. Total fire hazard. Are you mulching for aesthetics or permaculture? I don't know what your absolutist "true" definition of mulch is since mulch is a rather abstract term for any kind of ground covering (bark, wood chips, leaves, grass clippings, rocks, straw, old carpet, cocoa husks, plastic sheeting, etc), but one would think it's for water retention and weed control at the very least, and if organic matter, then it's also for providing a fantastic, natural and long-lasting source of food for your plants. And if it's not screened and comes in varied sizes and mixed carbon and greens, all the better. The worms love it and so do my orchards and vegetables. That's why I mulch and why I would gladly take natural wood chipper mulch by the truckload for free over bagged uniform screened, dip dyed CCA construction site lumber waste any day of the week. So I guess to each his own, nickc3. This IS slickdeals. Free is pretty slick and I was merely offering up a free alternative to those who don't have this deal available to them.

Has anyone tried showing this ad to their local HD for a pricematch? I'm also interested in the gallon tropicals 3 for 10.

You do know that most decent nurseries / landscaping suppliers sell a red dye that contains pesticide that you can treat it with instead of replacing mulch all the time just to get the color? You just apply it with a tank type sprayer and voilá your mulch is like new again.

I bought the red mulch at home depot last year. I think it was scotts brand but I'm not sure. Still as red as the day I bought it and I live about 3 miles from the sun. Its 100+ here all summer and rains like hell all winter.

I'd originally bought some off-brand at Lowes, but when I got there they spent 45 minutes looking for where they put it, and had me driving my car in circles around the building after walking around the whole place. I gave up and got the brand name at HD for the same price, and it only took 3 minutes to figure out where it was.

I've never bought bags of mulch. I've never had a project using mulch that was small enough for it to make sense to buy mulch by the bag. This is a great price for a bag, however, it's still more expensive than buying by the yard or 1/2 yard at the local compost/mulch location. Mulch last year was $18 a yard. A yard is 27 cubic feet.

By the way, I'm getting jelous of all you guys who can start enjoying spring. I'm going out ice fishing tomorrow, I would rather the ice be gone though.
