Maybe the title is grandiose and disservice to all the people before them or who worked at the mills etc. But these men where great men who built empires and did indeed help give America a more significant role in the global stage.

Either many people are missing the point or are just that self-righteous. It's the story of the business leaders of the industrial revolution in America. That's all. Nobody is ignoring that there were slaves, women, or cheap immigrant labor. This is not the story of them. It's the story of the wealthy, powerful, white men (may not like it, but that's what happened) who built vast empires of industry and were responsible for the vision and investment (if not actual physical labor) that created a huge amount of infrastructure in this country. It's an interesting story and they were interesting men. They did some right and some wrong, but they were incredibly powerful and influential, and their actions have had a tremendous lasting effect on America. It's worthwhile to learn about. (unless you believe in an alternate history full of hearsay and innuendo about shadowy overlords)
