I have this camera that was also purchased from REI using a similar 20% coupon. They have the best 100% satisfaction policy. My camera has had no issues. Just make sure to update to the newest firmware as soon as you can. I also use the Sandisk 32 gb memory card here - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&\

let me get this straight, to get the 20% off discount, we have to get a rei membership that cost $20 one time fee only? is there any hidden back fees or anything? so i can just pay the $20 and ignore my rei membership and i wouldnt have to pay any additional fees?

my friend from the philippines wants me to buy this for him and to send it over to the philippines.

Yes, the membership is for life and they have these sales at least twice a year. I've never known anyone to regret being an REI member.

one more thing, do you think it's a good idea if I buy this and then directly send it to the philippines without testing it? what if something is wrong with it? then we wouldnt be able to return it Frown and i heard a lot of issues about this gopro model..

Not really a good idea, with the correct class 10 card, a lot of people use these very succesfully. As was pointed out many times though, some people have definitely had issues. Buying it from REI is great because they have a no questions asked return policy, you can come in and say "I don't like it" and they'll 100% refund your money.

If the black one isn't a huge requirement, if you send him a silver one he will probably get a more stable camera. If he does need the black one, it would be a good idea to spend some time turning it off and on.

Finally, it has been proven that a lot of the recording issues are heat related. Again, if he wants a trouble free camera in a tropical place, (and has no way to return it) the silver might be a good way to go.

Thought I was a member and this wasn't coming up right. Added the membership to the card and everything worked out right. Got another 5% cashback from upromise on it as well. Great deal, thanks OP!

that's what i thought, i haven't really done a lot of research about the issues of the black edition but i know enough that a lot of people had problems with it.

i told him that too, but he is really insistent on getting the black one.

thanks for the help btw Smilie

Just bought a black, along with the class 10 sandisk. Absolutely no problems with the firmware they just released a few days ago. Incredible camera.
