I thought about biting on this but in reading the customer reviews on the drive at Newegg, it seems many MANY people are not getting their rebates back from ASUS.

FWIW, this exact same drive was $50 AR with a free 5 pack of BD-R media in 2011. I'm surprised it's only dropped $10 in the interim. It's a good drive though. Plays and burns BDs like a champ. I had no problem with the $40 rebate back then, and I've had no problem with other ASUS rebates (Bluetooth dongles, graphics cards)

WinDVD Pro will do it. You can get it FAR if you wait long enough.

It kind of looked like this might be an older model based on some of the reviews I was reading.
Thanks all for the software suggestions. I've been considering getting a drive like this one to go in my Dell Inspiron 530. My only other hang up would be getting an appropriate DVI to HDMI adapter.

I ordered one of this on 11/22 for $75 before $35 rebate. I submitted the rebate on 12/3 and I received the rebate card on 3/6. I have also done a handful of ASUS rebates last year and none has any issue. Nevertheless, there are 4-5 cases of rebate problems in the review. Considering hundreds of units sold in a promotion, that would be probably less than 1% with rebate issue. Human error at either ends are usually the cause of rebate problem.

Can anyone recommend an external case for this so I can use it with a laptop?

Why bother? Spend $30 more (not much more than the price of a case) and buy this:

I grabbed one - it isn't that bad. USB 3.0 would be nice - but my laptop is only 2.0, so makes no difference to me.

Thanks. I'll check this one out. I was having a hard time finding a 3.0 enclosure that supports blu-ray so the LG might be a better purchase.
