Sometimes I have to turn my unit off and on a few times for my tv to detect the WD live. Is that what your talking about? It's annoying but it eventually works. And not always happens.

same issue with my first two units from amazon. just got my 3rd unit delivered and i need to test it. the first two showed boot logo and the no signal. tested it with multiple tvs and resolutions. glad i got those from amazon where I could return with no pain.

Not really what I meant. Those boxes are confirmed DOA. I tried it many times and on different TVs. They just show the splash screen and then nada. The signal goes away. Leaving it on for 15-20 minutes made no difference. They refused to boot.

Got 2 dead ones, RMA'd those, then got 1 good and 1 bad, RMA'd the bad one, and then finally got a tested unit from WD refurb warehouse. (They escalated it and I asked for it to be tested).

How is different than this which is sold in $60's brand new

Will this playback direct bluray rips better than Plex does on my i5 mini? Now Plex just eats RAM and then crashes.

It has a USB connection in the front and back. Just look at the pictures.

For those having sync issues with their TV, try factory resetting the WDTV box (press the reset button with a paperclip or pin). Let the player boot up for about 2 minutes then press the button for a good 15 seconds.

If that doesn't work, try connecting via component cables and playing with the video settings.

I love my WDTV (and Serviio PC software).

Good luck with that. WD never bothers to fix the bugs in their devices, instead EOLing them and releasing new bug-riddled devices. Pretty much any other manufacturer's devices are better (ok, except maybe for the brain-damaged Patriot Android box, but the PBO Core makes up for that). I got burned on one WDTV, never again.

I have one of these and am very happy with it. Only gripes are that it doesn't support Amazon prime and there is no browser (not that I'd be browsing on it a lot, but I can do it on the wii and on BD player, so why not here?)

The one in this deal supports MPEG2 video and DTS audio, which the one at Beach/Rakuten does not.

I have this WDTV Live, Roku LT, and MK802 ii.

If you want to mod/hack, get the MK802 II or any other android stick. Put XBMC on it and you have local playback, live streaming sports, streaming movies/tv shows with video add-ons. Another thing to note is that it's HDMI only and no support for 5.1 channel.

If you want something that works out of the box, get this WDTV. @ $58 is a good price, since you get local playback with USB, ethernet, 1080p, 5.1 channels.

Is this product necessary for streaming from a home computer over WIFI if you have a Smart TV such as a Samsung 6500, 7500, or 8000 TV?
