ive owned this for one year. Its excellent, plays all formats including the tough MKV format. I have two external USB HD's connected. I stream video with my HP Touchpad, laptops, computers, watch MLB.tv, etc. I have it hard wired for better connection. However, I do need to power off/power on almost daily as it seems to lose the TV signal or freeze. I am not too happy with this software as it is clumsy, slow, and freezes. There is no other device out there that plays all the stuff this does for this cheap so I will use it until then.

*Tip - Make sure to defrag your external drives (u must disconnect them and connect them to pc). If you do not, the streaming will play choppy or freeze. I use perfectDisk.

Thanks, I'm in the market for a new TV and want to avoid unnecessary purchases if the technology will exist in a purchase I'm making. I'm not familiar with it, but I'll check out PLEX. I am assuming NAS means network attached storage.

Keep in mind if you use a TV's app, you will still need to keep your PC on all the time. I prefer not to for costs and prefer to stream from this small unit with externals.

Wow, I was tempted, but the number of people reporting having to reconnect/reboot frequently has made me think twice. I think I'll hold off trying WD until (or perhaps if?) they get their act together.

last time I bought one, had a DOA. Not sure if I want to take that risk again... kind of wish Amazon has this price due to prime and return policy.

According to the WD site WDBGXT0000NBK is the PAL version's model number. Does this even matter with HDMI?

That's a good point. I have to admit it is a little disappointing knowing that a so-called Smart WiFi TV cannot automatically detect shared media such as MKVs from a computer.

If your TV is DLNA capable, you can run PS3 MEDIA SERVER and it will pick up your library. But like the other poster said, your computer needs to be on.

This WDTV Live streaming cannot be modded. Cannot run XBMC or any alternative firmware.

I use Serviio. I found Plex to be very CPU intensive and bloated (memory, slow).

Then what is WDLXTV?
I'm really asking a question. Not questioning your knowledge. I just haven't spent time looking at what WDLXTV offers.

Is the PS3 Media Server the same as Xbox 360 Media Center Extender?

This is pretty much the standard sale price for refurbs. While it's not a bad deal, I don't see how it gets to be FP-worthy.
